MILAN (AP) \u2014 U.S. hockey defender Haley Winn<\/a> \u2018s three older brothers are her biggest, loudest and most colorful fans. To say the Winn brothers have shown pride for their baby sister at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics<\/a> would be a vast understatement. <\/p>\n

They churned out goofy viral videos in several outfits to cheer her and her teammates<\/a> throughout Team USA\u2019s Olympic run, culminating Thursday in a 2-1 gold medal<\/a> win over Canada. In some videos, they decked themselves out in American flag-patterned jackets and matching bucket hats and narrated the game\u2019s results, including sister Haley\u2019s first goal of the Olympics. <\/p>\n

In others, they sported red, white and blue jumpsuits and covered their entire heads with bald eagle<\/a> masks while simulating tabletop curling with an Aperol spritz<\/a> and a napkin.<\/p>\n

Many of their videos were set in the arena\u2019s stands or in an alley outside their rented Milan apartment. But even as they have been loud and proud throughout the Games, they have a message for the hundreds of thousands of social media users tuning in to their Olympic antics: Watch the games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about them,\u201d Ryan Winn, 27, told The Associated Press on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s not about us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haley Winn, 22, is part of a generation of female athletes<\/a> who are elevating professional women\u2019s hockey, soccer, basketball, among others, and her brothers want everyone to remember who the real stars are. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou get a little emotional obviously seeing them here, just seeing all the videos of them,\u201d she told the AP on Thursday after the winning game. \u201cObviously they\u2019re the most supportive people on this planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Draped in an American flag, she took a selfie holding her gold medal with Casey, Ryan and Tommy leaning over the rink\u2019s railing to crowd into the picture. The brothers promptly posted it to their social media with the caption, \u201cShe\u2019s the best in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The United States and Canada<\/a> faced off in an Olympic final for a seventh time Thursday since women\u2019s hockey debuted at the 1998 Nagano Games. The rivalry between the sport\u2019s two global powers never gets old \u2014 but this year it was especially acute as political tensions<\/a> between the two countries are on edge. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly said Canada should be the 51st U.S. state.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u2018The absolute beast out of all of us\u2019<\/p>\n

The four Winn siblings grew up skating on their family\u2019s backyard ice rink in Rochester, New York. While the exuberant brothers all went on to play college hockey, it was already abundantly clear that their quieter, humbler sister was the true talent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaley just turned out to be the absolute beast out of all of us,\u201d Ryan Winn said.<\/p>\n

Casey Winn, 29, said she started on the ice before she could even walk, \u201cpushing a bucket around.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ryan added: \u201cShe always wanted to be the hardest worker. She always want to be competing against us, and she wants to be the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

After playing at Clarkson University in New York, Haley Winn was the second overall pick in last year\u2019s Professional Women\u2019s Hockey League draft and currently plays for the Boston Fleet. Milan Cortina marks her Olympic debut, and she scored one goal and had three assists over the six games leading up to Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe loves this game and she had a dream to play this game at the highest level for a long time,\u201d Ryan Winn said. \u201cIt\u2019s now our dream, getting to watch her live out her dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Add an eagle head to it\u2019<\/p>\n

The brothers began their outlandish shows of support during the 2024 World Championship in Utica, New York. Ryan Winn, a video producer, said they wanted to up their game for the Olympics, both in the stands and for their social media content.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we were like, \u2018What can we do that\u2019s next level?\u2019\u201d he said. \u201dWe\u2019re going to add an eagle head to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The inspiration stemmed from Team USA\u2019s goal celebration song, \u201cFree Bird\u201d by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The brothers, for added effect, flap their arms as wings in the stands. Boom \u2014 another viral video. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe laughs about it, she comments on our posts,\u201d said Ryan Winn. \u201cShe didn\u2019t know any of the outfits that were coming, too, so she\u2019s just as surprised as anybody else when she sees the fits.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Winn brothers are first to own up to the absurdity of their bald eagle jumpsuits, but they are adamant that elite women\u2019s hockey deserves the same respect given to the men\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf someone says they don\u2019t like women\u2019s sports or \u2018I just want to watch the NHL and not the PWHL,\u2019 it\u2019s because you haven\u2019t watched enough games,\u201d Ryan Winn said. \u201cThese are highly skilled, high-level players that have devoted their lives to this craft, who are playing explosively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haley Winn on Thursday said it\u2019s \u201cawesome\u201d to see her brothers reach new audiences online, even if the videos embarrass her a little bit. <\/p>\n

The brothers\u2019 original plan was to just showcase their support for her and women\u2019s hockey but \u201cit obviously turned into something bigger than that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
