The depth that Brantford has at center is insane. In all honesty, Jett is probably their third best center, but that is not a knock. They have Jake O’Brien, who was a top 10 pick in 2025, and Caleb Malhorta, who is likely to be one of the top centers in 2026.

To me, this move is just to make sure he is playing alongside equal talent. I am less concerned about his ability to play center than I am about his production. Watching him in the NHL, it’s clear Luchanko is a capable center, he just could not find his offense.

While I would certainly prefer if Luchanko was a top-six center, I’d much rather have him playing a top-six role rather than as a center in the bottom six.

Denis asked: How does the current locker room atmosphere or “team vibe” differ this season under Tocchet compared to last season under Torts?

I know coaching changes can bring a culture shock, but I am under the belief that it’s the people in the room that change the vibe. ‘

My time covering the team in person started in January of Tortorella’s final season, so I had about three months to observe and get the feel of the “team vibe” under Tortorella. Much of the good still feels the same. Wins are still loud and fun, and losses are quiet.

This year, I have seen a lot more immediate accountability after losses. By that, I mean players have conversations away from media scrums discussing what they could have done differently, and how they can improve. It’s a very encouraging thing for such a young team to be doing that.

I mentioned how I believe that it’s the players that change the vibe. Trevor Zegras has been one of them. He seems to be at the center of everything, whether it be his friendships with Jamie Drysdale, Cam York, Christian Dvorak, and Travis Konecny. Or even taking in Denver Barkey as a roommate to get him out of a hotel. On many occasions, Zegras is at the center of the postgame improvement conversations.

Just as last year, you can tell how close the team is. I’d say the biggest difference between this year and last year is that the voices are a little louder this year. But again, when you add a personality like Zegras to the group, that’s expected.

Read More: Flyers Mailbag 1.0: Goalie Prospects; Getting a 1C; Is Thomas the Perfect Fit?

Denis asked: Some skilled players may become very frustrated playing years for an under-performing franchise (aka, non-playoff team) for several years. Playoff hockey is a whole different beast compared to regular season hockey and the thrill to play playoff hockey must be intoxicating. Do you feel there are any current long standing Flyer players that may be getting to the point where they are no longer wanting to stick around?

This is a great question, but I believe the simple answer is no. When I think of “long standing Flyers”, I think of Couturier, Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and now Cam York and Noah Cates are close to joining that list.

Both Cates and York resigned after last season, well knowing where the team was heading. I know veterans have spoke about frustration with missing the playoffs in the past, but each has also said they want to make the playoffs in a Flyers uniform.

Travis Konecny recently aired his frustration with missing the postseason, but also expressed his confidence in the Flyers plan as recently as Tuesday.

Konecny said, “I know that the team we’re building, what we have, the plan; we’re going to be a playoff team, and I’m not worried about that. I know everyone believes in that, in this group, so we just keep on pushing.”

So, the simple answer again, I don’t see anyone requesting out.

Extending the Flyers Mailbag window!

I’ve had a great time reading and answering the questions asked! So much so, that we’re extending the window to Monday, 2/23, at 12:00 p.m. EST.

This time around, we’re looking for deadline questions as the March 6th NHL trade deadline gets close!
