Gavin McKenna, the projected first overall pick for this summer\u2019s NHL Draft, put on a show Friday night. <\/p>\n
During an 11-4 rout over Ohio State, the Penn State winger recorded eight points, including one goal and seven assists, to shatter the school\u2019s single-game point record of five. <\/p>\n
McKenna, an 18-year-old from Whitehorse, Yukon, now has 12 goals and 29 assists over 27 games in 2025-26, his first year of NCAA hockey after departing the Western Hockey League\u2019s Medicine Hat Tigers at the end of last season.<\/p>\n
McKenna tallied 129 points (41 goals and 88 assists) in just 56 games with the Tigers in 2024-25, and led them to the WHL league title in his last season with the team.<\/p>\n
McKenna has represented Canada at the past two World Junior Hockey Championships, scoring four goals and 10 assists over seven games at the most recent tournament earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Canada won the bronze medal after finishing fifth in 2025. <\/p>\n
McKenna was recently charged with aggravated assault<\/a>, misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment following an alleged physical altercation in January.
