He won\u2019t be coming back from the Olympics with a medal, but that doesn\u2019t mean Detroit<\/a> Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond<\/a> is returning without earning a place in hockey history.<\/p>\n

During the Cortina Milano Olympics, Raymond accomplished a mark never before achieved by a Swedish Olympic hockey player. He also equaled another of his country\u2019s Olympic standards.<\/p>\n

Raymond finished the tournament with a goal and eight assists in five games. Even though Sweden was eliminated in the quarterfinals, Raymond<\/a> is still third overall in the Olympic scoring race.<\/p>\n

Raymond\u2019s eight assists tied a long-standing Swedish record. Ronald Pettersson recorded eight assists for Sweden at the 1960 Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley, California.<\/p>\n

Playing in the Olympics for the first time, Raymond collected at least one assist in each of Sweden\u2019s five games. That assist streak is a new standard for Swedish Olympic players.<\/p>\n

The previous record for an assist streak by a Swedish Olympian was four games. Nicklas Backstrom recorded assists in four consecutive games during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. Red Wings icon Nicklas Lidstrom<\/a> originally established the mark. The seven-time Norris Trophy-winning defenseman collected assists in four straight games at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympiad.<\/p>\n

Watching from afar, Raymond\u2019s Red Wings teammates weren\u2019t at all surprised to see such a dominant performance from the player who leads the team in scoring this season with 60 points.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah. it was impressive,\u201d Detroit forward James van Riemsdyk<\/a> said. \u201cI think he\u2019s top five in scoring that tournament, which is a very cool, impressive thing for a player like him to accomplish.<\/p>\n
