The 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics<\/a> have reached their final day.<\/p>\n

And with a little time to spare, Team USA now has its most gold medals at a single Winter Games, beating its previous high of 10.<\/p>\n

The U.S. men\u2019s hockey team will look to add to that collection on Sunday morning when they take on Canada in the gold-medal game. Team USA is looking for its first men\u2019s hockey gold since the 1980 \u201cMiracle on Ice\u201d team that upset the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n

Also on Sunday, the freestyle skiing halfpipe final will take place after being postponed due to a snowstorm<\/a>. That\u2019s when Eileen Gu’s latest controversial Olympic run<\/a> will continue, as she\u2019s up against 11 other freestyle skiers, including Team USA’s Svea Irving and Kate Gray, who placed eighth and 12th, respectively, in qualifying on Thursday.<\/p>\n

After the U.S. women fell to Canada in the curling bronze medal game, Switzerland and Sweden will face off for gold on Sunday morning. The other final events of these Games are the women\u2019s cross-country skiing 50km mass start and the four-man bobsled final.<\/p>\n

Last but not least are the Closing Ceremonies, which will take place in Verona, east of Milan, at the historic Verona Arena. Women\u2019s hockey gold medalist Hilary Knight and ice dance silver medalist Evan Bates will be the United States flag bearers for the ceremony<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The United States set a new American record for gold medals won at a Winter Olympics on Saturday. And it came from a discipline where Team USA hadn\u2019t had any success earlier in the Games.<\/p>\n

After disappointing performances in the individual aerials events, the mixed team of Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran and Chris Lillis got to take home some hardware, defending the gold medal Team USA won in this event four years ago in Beijing.<\/p>\n

It was the 11th gold of these Games for the U.S., topping its previous Winter Olympics record set in Salt Lake City 24 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of success with (this event), and I think the fact a lot of U.S. athletes come from team sports and just using each other as motivation really helps us, especially in aerials skiing,\u201d said Lillis, who was the only holdover from the 2022 team and thus became the most decorated aerials skier in Team USA history. \u201cIt can feel kind of lonely up there, but if you watched our team at any point in the day, we literally vibe off each other so much and each person that puts down a great jump just motivates the next person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finland takes the bronze medal in the men\u2019s ice hockey tournament with a 6-1 win over Slovakia.<\/p>\n

Tomas Tatar cut Slovakia\u2019s deficit to 2-1, scoring with 30 seconds remaining in the second period. But Finland responded with a four-goal onslaught in the third.<\/p>\n

Roope Hintz, Kaapo Kakko and Joel Armia each found the net, and Erik Haula tallied an empty-net goal after Slovakia pulled Samuel Hlavaj with four minutes left in the game. Haula finished with two scores.<\/p>\n

Team USA\u2019s Kaillie Armbruster-Humphries and Jasmine Jones earned bronze in the two-women bobsled event, maintaining their third-place standing through the fourth and final run of the competition.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi won gold, while Lisa Buckwitz and Neele Schuten earned silver. The Germans took three of the top four spots in the final standings, with Kim Kalicki and Talea Prepens finishing fourth.<\/p>\n

For Armbruster-Humphries, this is her sixth Olympic medal, two of them won in Milan Cortina. She also took gold in monobob at Beijing, with gold at Beijing and Sochi, and bronze at Pyeongchang in two-women competition.<\/p>\n

The U.S. had two more pairs finish in the top 10 with Kaysha Love and Azaria Hill placing fifth, followed by Elana Meyers Taylor and Jadin O\u2019Brien in seventh. Meyers Taylor won gold in monobob<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

The duo of Kaillie Armbruster-Humphries and Jasmine Jones currently holds the third spot, five-tenths of a second behind the No. 2 spot. Kaysha Love and Azaria Hill are placed fifth, while Elana Meyers Taylor and Jadin O\u2019Brien are sixth.<\/p>\n

Germany holds the top two spots and three of the top four with Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi leading the field.<\/p>\n

Sunday, the final day of this year\u2019s Olympics, will feature one more event, and that\u2019s because Saturday\u2019s freeski women\u2019s halfpipe final has been postponed due to a snowstorm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The controversial Eileen Gu<\/a> and Team USA\u2019s Svea Irving and Kate Gray, as well as Great Britain\u2019s Zoe Atkin, will have to wait a bit longer.<\/p>\n

Eight years ago in Pyeongchang, Mia Manganello won a bronze medal in team pursuit.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, she won bronze again, this time in an individual speedskating event \u2014 not just any but the mass start, which she placed fourth in during the 2022 Beijing Games.<\/p>\n

Racing in her final Winter Olympics, women\u2019s speedskater Mia Manganello earned bronze in Saturday\u2019s mass start event.<\/p>\n

Competing in her third Winter Games, Manganello finished third with a time of 8:35.39. Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands won gold at 8:34.70, while Canada\u2019s Ivanie Blondin finished at 8:35.09.<\/p>\n

Manganello, 36, earned the second bronze of her Olympic career, also taking bronze in the team pursuit event at Pyeongchang.<\/p>\n

Jordan Stolz\u2019s remarkable Olympics came to an end Saturday, and for the first time in these Games, he didn\u2019t reach the podium.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old barely missed out, finishing fourth in long-track\u2019s most chaotic event, the mass start.<\/p>\n

Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands took gold and Viktor Hald Thorup of Denmark grabbed silver. In a distant third, Italy\u2019s Andrea Giovannini edged Stolz by nine hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n

Still, Stolz is coming away from the Olympics with three medals: golds in the 500 and 1,000 meters and a silver in the 1,500.<\/p>\n

Down 8-7, the Americans needed a steal in the 10th end. They couldn’t conjure a last bit of Olympic magic to make it happen.<\/p>\n

Peterson’s final throw didn\u2019t squeak past Canada’s guard, and the Canadians rejoiced to the tune of their 10-7 victory.<\/p>\n

The U.S. has the only women\u2019s curling team to compete in every Olympics and not win a medal. But the Americans\u2019 effort was valiant in these Games.<\/p>\n

Now the U.S. trails just 8-7.<\/p>\n

And Peterson\u2019s final rock took out only one Canadian stone, inviting Team Canada another opportunity for three.<\/p>\n

What a response from Team USA, which gave up three in the sixth end and scored two itself in the seventh.<\/p>\n

After Canada\u2019s Rachel Homan threw a great freeze, U.S. skip Tabitha Peterson split a pair of stones with a draw that ultimately tapped off a Canadian rock and rested in the button, giving the Americans a multiple to tie the game 5-5.<\/p>\n

A costly shot through the house by Tara Peterson and a near-miss by her sister, Tabitha, later on did the U.S. in, allowing the Canadians to score three and take a 5-3 lead.<\/p>\n

The U.S. denied Canada a multiple in the fourth end, thanks to a well-placed freeze thrown by American skip Tabitha Peterson.<\/p>\n

Peterson bounced back after her previous throw, a draw, was heavy and slid out of the house.<\/p>\n

Her final throw finished with a nose tap on Canada\u2019s stone at the button. That shrunk the scoring zone, ultimately limiting the Canadians to just one point in the end.<\/p>\n
