It appears the Winnipeg Jets<\/a> will be without defenceman Josh Morrissey<\/a> when their season resumes this week.<\/p>\n

Appearing on First Up on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto Monday, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger said Morrissey is expected to miss \u201ca good chunk of time\u201d with the injury he sustained while playing for Team Canada at Milano Cortina 2026.<\/p>\n

Dreger added the Jets medical staff still needs to evaluate Morrissey upon his return from Italy.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old blueliner was injured in Canada\u2019s opening game of the Olympics on Feb. 12 and missed the remainder of the tournament. He was ruled out of the gold-medal game a day ahead of Sunday\u2019s puck drop.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want Josh in this game, he helps us with puck moving and everything he does, but in the end if you\u2019re not physically able to do it \u2026\u201d head coach Jon Cooper said Saturday. \u201cThe one selfless thing about this team, and the way I\u2019ve watched these players \u2014 and it goes back to Brayden Point<\/a> and Anthony Cirelli<\/a> [injured players replaced before the Olympics] \u2014 when it comes to the flag, no one is getting in the way of it. If they\u2019re incapable of giving what they think is optimal effort, they don\u2019t want to put the country in harm, they understand what we have here.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Josh, in the end, he just wouldn\u2019t be able to perform. \u2026 So we had to make a decision.”<\/p>\n

Losing Morrissey is a massive loss for Jets, who are looking to push back towards the playoff picture, sitting 11 points back of the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> for the final wild-card spot as play resumes.<\/p>\n

Morrissey has 10 goals and 42 points in 56 games this season while leading the Jets in average ice time at 24:37 per game.<\/p>\n
