While two Hughes brothers were winning gold in Milan<\/a> for USA hockey, the third was back in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Luke Hughes, a defenseman with the Devils, was blown away by the performance of brothers Quinn and Jack, especially the latter\u2019s overtime winner<\/a> versus Canada in Sunday\u2019s gold medal game.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, I was just in shock,\u201d Luke told reporters<\/a> Sunday. \u201cI was jumping up and down, and everyone was celebrating. I\u2019m just so happy and so proud of those guys. It\u2019s such a great accomplishment. I think we\u2019re all still in shock that they won it in that fashion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c(Jack\u2019s) an unbelievable player, and obviously he\u2019s had a lot of adversity the last couple years, but he\u2019s a game-time player,\u201d Luke added about Jack, his teammate on the Devils. \u201cIt\u2019s just great to see guys in your country win a gold like that. I don\u2019t even know what to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Milan, Jack and Quinn stole the show, tying for the team lead with seven points apiece.<\/p>\n

Just 1:41 into three-on-three overtime play against Canada, Jack slotted home the game-winner to give the U.S. its first men\u2019s hockey gold since 1980.<\/p>\n

Jack and Quinn weren\u2019t the only Hughes family members to win gold in Milan, either. Their mother, Ellen-Weinberg Hughes, is a player development consultant for the U.S. women\u2019s hockey team, which also won gold.<\/p>\n

Fittingly, the women\u2019s squad also claimed gold over Canada<\/a> in overtime on Megan Keller\u2019s score.<\/p>\n

Luke gave praise to his mother as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just so proud of her and the work that she\u2019s put in with those girls. I know they really utilize her and she\u2019s a big part, but also it\u2019s an honor for both teams to bring home the gold,\u201d Luke said Sunday.<\/p>\n

Luke, in his fourth year with New Jersey, has five goals and 21 assists in 49 games, as opposed to Jack\u2019s 12 and 24. Quinn, a defender for the Wild, has racked up 52 assists as well. <\/p>\n

Luke is rehabbing from a dislocated shoulder, so he mentioned Sunday that he watched some of Team USA\u2019s games \u201cfrom the couch\u201d during his time off.<\/p>\n

With Team USA\u2019s two hockey medals, the U.S. slotted in second behind Norway with 12 golds and 33 total medals in the final count.<\/p>\n
