The Edmonton Oilers<\/a> appear to be closing in on a trade.<\/p>\n

NHL insider Frank Seravalli<\/a> reports that Andrew Mangiapane is expected to be moved in the “next three to four days,” with that report coming out on Monday.<\/p>\n

The NHL trade deadline is on March 6, less than two weeks away, but it sounds like the Oilers may not even have to wait that long to get a deal done.<\/p>\n

Mangiapane has a cap hit of $3.6 million through the end of the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n

In his past, he would’ve warranted that number.<\/p>\n

This season, not so much.<\/p>\n

“It just hasn\u2019t worked in Edmonton,” wrote\u00a0Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff<\/a>\u00a0at the end of January.<\/p>\n

Mangiapane has fallen down the pecking order, dealt with healthy scratches, and he even had his agent granted permission to find a trade for him.<\/p>\n

The contract has been hard to move, according to the same report from Seravalli, but apparently they’re getting close.<\/p>\n

An acquiring team would likely be hoping that a change of scenery could do Mangiapane good.<\/p>\n

The Oilers likely couldn’t expect a whole lot in return here, but if they can get out of Mangiapane’s deal now rather than later, it could be addition by subtraction.<\/p>\n
