The Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> entered the season looking like a team that might be aging a bit too much for its own good.<\/p>\n

Instead, with the March 6 NHL trade deadline approaching, the Penguins look like contenders.<\/p>\n

That has changed plans as far as trading goes. The Penguins might be buyers now.<\/p>\n

Penguins play-by-play man Josh Getzoff shared that sentiment with Daily Faceoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I know they\u2019d like to add another defenseman,” Getzoff said. “I know they\u2019d like to add to their forward group. They have some in-house solutions as far as guys in Wilkes-Barre that can come up and be productive, but do you want to make that big splash? Do you want to try to give guys a reason to think, \u2018Hey, we\u2019ve done our job, can you do yours and give us a piece to take the next step?\u2019 We\u2019ll see if they do just that.”<\/p>\n

Of course, Penguins fans will be watching more than the trade rumors over the next week-plus. They’ll also be keeping an eye on Sidney Crosby.<\/p>\n

The captain was injured while playing at the Olympics for Canada, and he missed both the semifinal and gold medal game because of that injury.<\/p>\n

Clarity is still lacking on what exactly Crosby did, or how long that means he’ll be out.<\/p>\n

The Penguins have put themselves in good position this season in large part because Crosby has continued to perform well despite his advanced age.<\/p>\n

Without Crosby, things change for the Penguins. So they’ll be hoping to get him back soon in order to make buying at the trade deadline a worthwhile endeavor.<\/p>\n
