As soon as the United States stepped onto the podium<\/a> to claim their gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, the NHL was ready to resume. The Washington Capitals<\/a> have 23 games left on the schedule, the fewest of any team in the Eastern Conference, starting with the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. Before that, we\u2019ll take a look at how the three Capitals that went to the Olympics performed in Milan. <\/p>\n

Logan Thompson\u00a0<\/p>\n

Logan Thompson<\/a> backstopped Canada to a 5-1 win over Switzerland<\/a> in his Olympic debut, his only appearance in the tournament. The 28-year-old stopped 24 of 25 shots, including a critical stop on Philipp Kurashev<\/a> in the second period for a .960 save percentage. He spent most of his time backing up Jordan Binnington<\/a>, who started every other game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Calgary, Alberta native has a 19-16-4 record, a 2.45 goals-against average (GAA), and a .912 save percentage (SV%) in 39 games in his second season in Washington. He needs five games to surpass a career-high 46 appearances with the Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> during the 2024-25 campaign, the season before he signed with the Capitals as a free agent.<\/p>\n

Tom Wilson<\/p>\n

Tom Wilson<\/a> made a noticeable impact on a Team Canada filled with superstars. While his stats (three goals, four assists in six games) don\u2019t jump off the page, the 31-year-old winger played his role perfectly. If there was a hit (or facewash) needed during the Olympics, Wilson was there to provide it. He finished with 23 penalty minutes and even got into a brief fight with Pierre Cronin in response to the French forward\u2019s questionable hit on Nathan McKinnon<\/a>. Cronin was subsequently banned from the tournament by the French team. <\/p>\n

Wilson was a \u201cheart and soul\u201d player for Canada, and he will be the same for Washington as they push for a playoff spot. He has 23 goals and 26 assists in 50 games this season and needs seven more goals to record back-to-back 30-goal seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Martin Fehervary<\/p>\n

Martin Fehervary<\/a> and Team Slovakia were impressive at the 2026 Winter Olympics and finished in fourth place. He averaged 21:01 of ice time per game while registering four assists through six games. His four assists tied a Slovakian record (set by Lubomir Sekeras<\/a> in 1998) for the most in an Olympic Games involving NHL players.<\/p>\n

Fehervary is having a solid season with four goals and 16 assists through 58 games. The 26-year-old sits five points shy of tying his career-high of 25 points from last season.\u00a0His knee injury in the second-to-last game of the regular season last season took him out of the playoffs, so he will be looking to help his team reach the postseason in 2025-26.<\/p>\n

With the silver medals draped around their necks, Wilson and Thompson returned to the Capitals, trading the red and white for Washington\u2019s red, white, and blue. It\u2019s going to be a fast and furious finish to the season. Washington will need to go on a heater over the next few weeks if they plan to give Alex Ovechkin<\/a> one more invitation to the postseason party in 2026. They are four points back of the second wild-card spot and tied at 65 points with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have three games in hand. <\/p>\n

They host the Flyers on Wednesday and the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday before visiting the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Hopefully, the Olympic experience of all three players will prepare them for the stretch run. <\/p>\n
