A member of the gold medal-winning U.S. men\u2019s hockey team on Wednesday admitted regret about laughing<\/a> at President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s joke aimed at the women\u2019s team in the aftermath of victory over Canada.<\/p>\n

Asked about the \u201cnegative reaction\u201d while speaking to reporters in Boston, goaltender Jeremy Swayman said: \u201cWe should have reacted differently. We know that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so excited for the women\u2019s team,\u201d added the Boston Bruins player, per MassLive<\/a>. \u201cWe have so much respect for the women\u2019s team, and to share that gold medal with them is something that we\u2019re forever grateful for.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a Sunday night call to the just-crowned Olympic champions, Trump quipped<\/a> about inviting the women\u2019s squad to the nation\u2019s capital along with the men\u2019s team as they also won gold.<\/p>\n

The president said \u201cI must tell you, we\u2019re gonna have to bring the women\u2019s team, you do know that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump added he probably \u201cwould be impeached\u201d if he didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

His comments prompted laughter in the locker room.<\/p>\n

Jack Hughes, a star player on the U.S. men\u2019s team, was asked about Swayman\u2019s reflection on Trump\u2019s joke on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re in the moment,\u201d said<\/a> the New Jersey Devils player, who scored the winning goal in overtime for the U.S. \u201cWe\u2019re blaring the music. They pause the music, and then the president calls. It is what it is now, but we have so much respect for the women\u2019s team, they have so much respect for us. We\u2019re all just proud Americans and we\u2019re happy that we both swept the Olympics.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five members of the men\u2019s team declined<\/a> Trump\u2019s invitation to his State of the Union address on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s team snubbed the president\u2019s offer to attend the big speech, but Trump said during his State of the Union address they would be heading to D.C. \u201csoon.\u201d<\/p>\n
