The Olympic roster freeze has lifted, and it is now a mad dash to the trade deadline. For the Canucks, it is all about the future. Management is open to tearing the team down to the studs, leading to many players being in trade talks. We will discuss the latest information about possible destinations for outgoing players.

It is All About Selling For the Vancouver Canucks to Start Their Rebuild

Rumours: As first reported by Kevin Weekes, teams are calling the Canucks about defenceman Tyler Myers. In further discussion by other analysts, he has been linked to several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, and Dallas Stars. However, Myers holds power in that he has a no-move-clause.

Other players have also been mentioned in recent trade talks. TSN’s Darren Dreger mentioned that Brock Boeser would be willing to move if there is a good fit. Evander Kane has also been in trade talks since before the Olympic Break, among other players as well.

Analysis: It is in the Canucks’ best interest to take offers on all veteran players. However, the large number of no-trade clauses the Canucks have signed limits the autonomy they have.

Talks so far have indicated that the Stars may be the frontrunners for Tyler Myers. It would not be a bad fit at all there, as Myers could slot into the third pairing on defence, being an upgrade over Alex Petrovic or Ilya Lyubushkin. The 36-year-old Texas-born defenceman could be a valuable player for the Stars to add, as he is a big defenceman who can play a shutdown role if need be. His $3 million contract should not be a deterrent to teams looking to add him.

The hurdle to clear is the no-move-clause for Myers. He has full say until July 1st, when the NMC changes into a 12-team no-trade clause. The Detroit Red Wings, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger, had a trade framework in place. However, Chris Johnston said on Insider Trading that Myers was not interested in playing in Detroit. Until Myers makes a decision, the Canucks may continue to sit him out of games, as they did for Wednesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Tyler Myers will not play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets for roster management purposes.

— Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) February 26, 2026

No-Move Clauses: A Common Problem For the Canucks

As it stands, many players who have popped up in trade talks have some form of trade protection. Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk have full no-movement clauses. Teddy Blueger and Drew O’Connor have modified no-trade clauses. Conor Garland currently has no trade protection, but he will have a no-movement clause starting next season.
