The Boston Bruins<\/a> returned to action from the Olympic break on Thursday night with a 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Before that, though, the B’s watched a pair of their players, defenseman Charlie McAvoy<\/a> and goaltender Jeremy Swayman, help Team USA win a gold medal over Canada on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

McAvoy, in particular, played a big role in this win, as he paired up with Quinn Hughes to form America’s top defensive pairing throughout the tournament. There’s no doubt that winning a gold medal was a big accomplishment for McAvoy, and his family enjoyed the celebration of the victory alongside him, with his mother, Jennifer McAvoy, revealing his immediate reaction<\/a> to his major achievement.<\/p>\n

“He just came right over to me, and he put the gold medal around my nec,k and he said, ‘We did it.’ … He just kept repeating that,” Jennifer said on News 12 Long Island.<\/p>\n

After missing the Four Nations final against Canada last year because of a shoulder injury, McAvoy’s reassuring presence on the blue line for Team USA played a big role in the Americans’ ability to come out on top this time around. While he’s battled a slew of injuries this year, there was no doubt that McAvoy was going to find his way onto the ice for this game.<\/p>\n

Now, McAvoy is back with the Bruins<\/a>, who appear intent on making a surprise run for a playoff spot down the stretch of the season. After picking up a win over the Blue Jackets on Thursday, Boston will aim to continue its winning ways when it takes on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
