Patrik Laine’s situation has reached a crucial stage, as Pierre LeBrun reports Kent Hughes allowed his agent to speak with other NHL teams about a trade.<\/p>\n

It appears an amicable separation is taking shape. The camp of No. 92 can now speak directly with other teams to help facilitate a trade.<\/p>\n

The big Finn is enduring a difficult season with just 1 assist and no goals in 5 NHL games played. He has also missed several games following surgery for an abdominal muscle injury.<\/p>\n

Let’s be honest, his hefty $8.7 million contract, which expires this summer, complicates a rebound. However, Montreal could retain 50% of his salary to help a contending team.<\/p>\n

Hughes ready to make a move on Laine <\/p>\n

“Pierre Lebrun on RDS says that the Habs have given permission to Patrik Laine’s agent to directly talk to teams around the NHL.<\/p>\n

He also says that it’s very positive between Habs management and Patrik Laine’s camp. If the Canadiens are able to trade Laine, they will.”<\/p>\n

Kent Hughes will not give away his forward for pennies. The objective remains to obtain a solid asset to continue the rebuild.<\/p>\n

Laine’s camp and the Canadiens’ front office maintain a very positive relationship despite the on-ice impasse.<\/p>\n

If a logical offer arrives by next Saturday, the general manager will act quickly.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt about it, interest in a natural goal scorer remains present around the league. With a -3 rating this season, Laine needs a fresh start to relaunch his NHL career.<\/p>\n

One thing is certain: the phone will be ringing for the Canadiens.<\/p>\n
