The Winnipeg Jets<\/a> aren’t entirely, totally out of the playoff picture.<\/p>\n

But realistically, they’re long shots to chase down a spot in the postseason. And that means it’s time to at least think about being sellers before the NHL’s March 6 trade deadline.<\/p>\n

Winnipeg doesn’t need to do a crazy sell-off. There’s reason to believe they have a solid future ahead of them.<\/p>\n

But at least with players who are on expiring contracts, trades should probably be considered.<\/p>\n

Logan Stanley is one of those guys.<\/p>\n

He’s still just 27, and the Jets could try to extend them.<\/p>\n

But because of his age, and his cheap $1.25 million cap hit, Stanley could also be of interest to a lot of other teams in a trade.<\/p>\n

In a new trade board on Daily Faceoff<\/a>, Matt Larkin puts Stanley in his first tier, among guys he believes most likely to be traded.<\/p>\n

“Stanley is still young enough to be part of Winnipeg\u2019s present and future,” Larkin writes. “But with his blend of size and snarl, he could be quite a sought-after commodity, the type that could net something pretty shiny in a trade.”<\/p>\n

If the Jets can land an early-round pick for a player who might leave in free agency over the summer, it’s a cost that would be tough to pass up.<\/p>\n

Stanley could develop into an even better player elsewhere, but that’s not really the determination Winnipeg is trying to make.<\/p>\n

Extension talks with Stanley this week would be reasonable, but if they don’t come together, then it makes a lot of sense to get something for him rather than nothing.<\/p>\n
