All eyes are on the St. Louis Blues<\/a> as the trade deadline quickly approaches this coming Friday. And the biggest name of all of them is young star center Robert Thomas. The Blues have set a massive high price for him<\/a>, but according to insider Elliotte Friedman, not only does he think a trade might happen, but he’s revealed a surprise team that is seriously in the bidding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Per @FriedgeHNIC<\/a> there\u2019s a decent chance Robert Thomas is traded by Friday\u2019s deadline. \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n

“I actually believe it could happen,” Friedman said. “I think there is a decent chance that Robert Thomas could be traded by the deadline on Friday. <\/p>\n

Utah Mammoth have notable connection to Robert Thomas<\/p>\n

“I believe one of the teams that’s in this is Utah. Bill Armstrong, the GM of Utah, drafted Robert Thomas in St. Louis, that’s a connection there. But I think it actually could happen, and I’m a bit surprised about that.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Mammoth have been pointed to a number of times this season as a team that really wants to make a splash and supercharge their playoff push. Owner Ryan Smith is not shy about spending money, and about trying to get what he wants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The team holds the first Wild Card spot at the moment in the Western Conference (going into Sunday’s play), one point up on Seattle, and four points clear of the first team chasing a spot, the Nashville Predators.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With top center Nick Schmaltz a pending unrestricted free agent, and Thomas signed for the next five years at a $8.125 million AAV, he’d be a ready-made replacement for the future. And at 26, Thomas is four years younger than Schmaltz.<\/p>\n

This will be something to watch over the next several days.<\/p>\n
