DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings are launching a new joint streaming and broadcast platform called Detroit SportsNet to provide in-market fans access to both teams\u2019 games.<\/p>\n
Subscriptions for the service go on sale Monday, with Tigers games set to begin streaming through the platform on Opening Day, March 26.<\/p>\n
The new service will cost $19.99 per month or $189 per year and will be powered by MLB\u2019s streaming technology. The move follows the teams\u2019 split from FanDuel Sports Network and is intended to provide a more reliable viewing experience following previous fan complaints regarding app performance.<\/p>\n
Subscribers who sign up early will not be billed until April 1. As an added incentive, the service is offering the first five regular-season Tigers games for free. Spring training games will continue to be available at no charge for fans using an MLB login.<\/p>\n
While Tigers games begin this month, Red Wings games will not join the Detroit SportsNet platform until the 2026-27 NHL season. This creates a brief overlap period where hockey fans may still need FanDuel Sports Network to finish the current season. Specific details regarding the streaming app for the Red Wings\u2019 future seasons are expected to be released later this summer.<\/p>\n
Fans who currently receive FanDuel Sports Network through cable or satellite providers likely will not need to take any action. Detroit SportsNet is expected to be widely available through those same traditional providers once distribution deals are complete. For fans living outside of the local market, Tigers games will remain available through the MLB.TV service.<\/p>\n
The broadcast teams for both franchises will remain the same under the new platform. Jason Benetti and Dan Dickerson will continue their play-by-play duties for the Tigers. Dan Petry and Andy Dirks will serve as the primary analysts for the baseball broadcasts. The Red Wings\u2019 production and talent teams are also expected to remain intact.<\/p>\n
Leagues are increasingly moving toward centralized production and direct-to-consumer streaming to stabilize local revenue. This shift occurs as traditional cable bundles lose subscribers. Despite the local media uncertainty, the Tigers increased their team payroll into the top 10 of Major League Baseball this offseason for the first time in nearly a decade.<\/p>\n
