Team USA women’s ice hockey captain Hilary Knight not only won a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics<\/a>, tallying three goals and three assists. She also did so on a torn MCL in her knee.<\/p>\n

The injury was revealed during an interview with “CBS Mornings” on Monday, mentioned by host Gayle King.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, I got a little banged up,” said Knight. \u201cI\u2019m not walking around the best, and I\u2019m missing a few games for the Seattle Torrent now.<\/p>\n

“But to be able to play through injury was definitely a mental gymnastic challenge for myself \u2014 and also physical,” she added. “But we have some amazing support staff that did their best to get me out there and perform at my best.”<\/p>\n

Knight, 36, netted the game-tying goal in Team USA’s gold-medal match versus Canada, scoring with two minutes remaining in regulation. The U.S. went on to win in overtime<\/a> 2-1.<\/p>\n

The gold medal was the second of Knight’s Olympic career and fifth overall. She was on the gold-winning squad at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and won silver in Vancouver (2010), Sochi (2014) and Beijing (2022).<\/p>\n

Knight’s goal against Canada also made her the all-time U.S. leader<\/a> in Olympic goals with 15. She was a flagbearer for the U.S. during the 2026 Games’ Opening Ceremony.<\/p>\n

Oh, and Knight also got engaged<\/a> while in Milan Cortina, proposing to USA speed skater Brittany Bowe. The two met during the Pyeongchang Winter Games.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Team USA captain made an appearance this past weekend<\/a> on “Saturday Night Live,” joining teammate Megan Keller (who scored the game-winner versus Canada) and Quinn and Jack Hughes from the gold-medal-winning U.S. men’s hockey team.<\/p>\n

The foursome appeared during the opening monologue by “Heated Rivalry” star Connor Storrie, with Knight and Keller getting a loud ovation from the audience.<\/p>\n

“I felt it, I heard it, it was electric,” Knight said on CBS. “I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh! This is an amazing response.'”<\/p>\n

The cheer was surely in response to President Donald Trump joking to the men’s team following their victory that he would be impeached if he didn’t also invite the women’s team to the White House.<\/p>\n

Knight said the joke was “distasteful<\/a>,” but added she preferred to move on.<\/p>\n

As Knight referenced, she plays for the Seattle Torrent of the PWHL, making her debut with the team in November. The team has already played 15 games in the 2025-26 season, compiling a 5-10 record.
