The latest NHL trade rumor suggests this: The Buffalo Sabres<\/a> are going for it.<\/p>\n

They’re chasing after Robert Thomas, the star center from the St. Louis Blues.<\/p>\n

TSN’s Darren Dreger posted<\/a> this on X on Tuesday afternoon:<\/p>\n

“Keep an eye on the Buffalo Sabres. Sources say talks between Buffalo and St Louis involving Robert Thomas are heating up.”<\/p>\n

That would be a game-changing deal for the Sabres.<\/p>\n

They haven’t played in the postseason in any of the last 14 seasons. Getting Thomas would make them into a true Stanley Cup contender.<\/p>\n

It’s already been a magical year for Buffalo, but Thomas would be a whole new level. He’s a first-line center, at least as far as the level of player he is.<\/p>\n

Thomas would also be an acquisition for the long term. He’s got five years left on his contract after this one.<\/p>\n

It wouldn’t be cheap for the Sabres to get Thomas, but it would be exciting, and very potentially worth it.<\/p>\n

This season, Thomas has 12 goals and 23 assists in 45 games.<\/p>\n

He’s 26 years old, and last year in just 70 games, he had 21 goals and 60 assists. He’s a great playmaker for his teammates.<\/p>\n

The other Sabres forwards would greatly enjoy the chance to play with Thomas, because he’s such a good distributor.<\/p>\n

This season for the Blues has been a nightmare, and pretty much no one in St. Louis is playing to their potential.<\/p>\n

With the Sabres, though, Thomas could excel once again.<\/p>\n
