Four players will be celebrated as part of the Detroit Red Wings’<\/a> next game, on Wednesday, March 4, and a beloved broadcaster will be back in the booth at Little Caesars Arena as the Wings play their first game there in more than a month.<\/p>\n

First, forward Patrick Kane will be honored in a ceremony before the puck drop against the Vegas Golden Knights (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Detroit) for becoming the all-time U.S.-born points leader \u2013 a feat he accomplished on Jan. 29 with his 1,375th point. (Kane is up to 1,377 points after picking up a goal on Monday in Nashville.) Those expected to be in attendance include Mike Modano, the metro Detroit native and ex-Wing who was the previous leader.<\/p>\n

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, meanwhile, will be celebrated for winning gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics<\/a> with the U.S. men’s hockey team. Team USA beat Canada, 2-1 in overtime, on Feb. 22. Larkin had two goals and an assist in six games, and was a key part of American dominance in faceoffs and penalty kills (including going 18-for-18 while shorthanded, capped by a 93-second five-on-three kill against Canada in the final).<\/p>\n

The team’s other two 2026 Olympians also will be recognized. Lucas Raymond had a goal and eight assists in five games for Sweden, which lost in the quarterfinals to USA. Moritz Seider had two assists in five games for Germany, which lost to Slovakia in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

The Vegas game \u2013 which also marks the return to the broadcast booth of Mickey Redmond, who underwent spine surgery in January<\/a> \u2013 is part of two straight home games before the Wings hit the road again on a four-game trip. The Wings host the Florida Panthers on Friday, four hours after the 3 p.m. trade deadline. The Wings could use both a top-six forward and a top-four defenseman, but there’ll be competition in what projects to be a seller’s market.<\/p>\n

The Wings (35-20-6) are in an incredibly tight battle to shore up positioning in the playoff picture; they entered Tuesday in third in the Atlantic Division with 76 points. But they’re nestled within a tangle with the Buffalo Sabres (second, 76 points), Montreal Canadiens (first wild-card, 75 points) and Boston Bruins (second wild-card, 71 points). Trailing not far behind are the Washington Capitals (69 points), Columbus Blue Jackets (68), Philadelphia Flyers (67) and Ottawa Senators (66) are within reach of the wild card picture. There’s even a pair of playoff teams from last season \u2013 the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers \u2013 not far behind, though they entered Tuesday closer to last in the East than to the Wings.<\/p>\n

The Wings have 21 games left this season, with 11 at home. Even if they only play .500 hockey the rest of the way, they’ll reach 97 points. No NHL team has ever missed the playoffs with that amount of points.<\/p>\n
