Earlier Wednesday, Weegar spoke to Sportsnet\u2019s Eric Francis about the possibility of being traded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I\u2019ll put it this way, \u201d he said when asked about possibly waiving his no-trade.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think everything\u2019s got to be put into consideration at some point. Will I? I don\u2019t know, but obviously it\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve ever been in a situation with a lot of rumours around me. So, it\u2019s new, it\u2019s different.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weegar, 32, would give the Mammoth an immediate boost to their top-four on the blue line ahead of the playoffs. He isn\u2019t a rental either, with a contract that runs until after the 2030-31 season with a $6.25-million cap hit.<\/p>\n
This season, he leads the Flames with 23:07 of ice time per game, and has three goals, 21 points and a minus-35 in 60 games.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust like they\u2019ve got to consider trading me, I\u2019ve got to consider all the options too,\u201d he told Francis.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I love it here. I want to win here. And it\u2019s just, it\u2019s too bad that we\u2019re all put into situations like this. But it\u2019s part of the game. I kind of just want to focus on how we all have got to find a way to play together, even with all the rumours and stuff. It\u2019s a weird time, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Flames are in the midst of a disappointing season and will miss the playoffs for the fourth-straight season. In January, they traded veteran defenceman Rasmus Andersson to the Vegas Golden Knights and are reportedly shopping Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman before the March 6 trade deadline.<\/p>\n
Weegar was in his fourth season with the Flames after being acquired alongside Jonathan Huberdeau in the Matthew Tkachuk trade back in 2023.<\/p>\n
