From this 23-man squad, they can dress 20 players (18 skaters and 2 goaltenders) for each game.<\/p>\n<p>Hockey is one of the most physical sports, and injuries can happen in countless ways. With roster spots limited, NHL teams rely on one or more minor league affiliates to provide a steady pool of players ready to step in when injuries strike.<\/p>\n<p>The Detroit Red Wings\u2019 primary minor league affiliate is the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
