The Vancouver Canucks aren’t expected to stop there<\/a>, as a number of players on their NHL roster have begun drawing interest around the league including Conor Garland, Drew O’Connor, Elias Pettersson and even Jake DeBrusk, who only joined the club in the summer of 2024.<\/p>\n“When DeBrusk signed as a free agent with Vancouver in 2024 he had as many as 14 teams after him with four-to-six year contract offers and teams are making calls on him now. There’s blood in the water and sharks are circling this team.” Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said in January.<\/p>\n

“I think a rebuild is hard for every player, but at the same point it’s a great opportunity for younger guys. This game humbles everybody and it’s been a little bit more than humbling this year. Obviously, that (rebuild) is not something I would be okay with or accepting. My game doesn’t fit that.” DeBrusk said to Kuzma.<\/p>\n
DeBrusk walked back his comments a bit when speaking with reporters on Tuesday, saying that he loves playing with this group and signed a long-term contract with the Vancouver Canucks for a reason.<\/p>\n
“I still believe in this group. Signed a long term deal for a reason. I can defend that, it’s what I believe.” DeBrusk said to reporters.<\/p>\n
Trading Jake DeBrusk over the next couple of days might be for the best, especially if he’s not wanting to be part of a full-on rebuild, and if the Vancouver Canucks decide to go down that route, there will be plenty of interest.<\/p>\n
“Word out of Vancouver suggests the Canucks are listening on DeBrusk and there is some speculation the player is open to a move given how things have gone since he’s joined the club. DeBrusk has five more seasons left on his contract after this year and will have to waive his NMC to facilitate a trade.<\/p>\n

In 59 games this season with the Canucks, the Edmonton, Alberta native has registered 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists), eight penalty minutes and is a minus-17.<\/p>\n
