The Winnipeg Jets are playing it safe with a couple of their biggest trade chips.<\/p>\n

The Jets are sitting defencemen Luke Schenn and Logan Stanley on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Trade talks have advanced and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is listening to a number of offers on each blueliner.<\/p>\n

Schenn brings a wealth of experience and a stay-at-home physical style, and can easily step onto a contender’s bottom pair, knowing exactly what his role will be heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 36-year-old defenceman is a pending free agent and makes $2.7 million AAV. Don’t be surprised to see the Jets retain some money to sweeten the trade return.<\/p>\n

Schenn’s appeared in 46 games this season, chipping in with seven points, averaging 13:44 of ice time per game. Schenn’s landed 139 hits, and blocked 54 shots, and is still a useful depth penalty killer.<\/p>\n

Stanley, on the other hand, is an intriguing trade chip based on the fact he’s having a career season. The former first-round pick is playing 17:12 a night, and has found his two-way game, scoring nine goals, and 21 points through 59 games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-7 Kitchener, ON native is signed for $1.2 million against the cap and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. With the current market, Cheveldayoff should be able to land at least a top prospect and mid-round pick for Stanley.<\/p>\n

Keep an eye on the Jets, trades are brewing and it looks like their blueline will look much different in the very near future.<\/p>\n
