Winnipeg received forward Isak Rosen, defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick from Buffalo late Thursday night before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Winnipeg also retained 50% of Luke Schenn’s $2.75 million AAV as part of this trade.

Stanley was held out of the lineup in Winnipeg’s contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning for roster management reasons, a trend seen with many others across the NHL on Thursday night.

Stanley, the Jets’ 18th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, is having a career season in 59 games played this year.

As I noted earlier, Stanley has 21 points (9G, 12A) and 99 PIMs in the 59 games he’s played this season. He’s been someone that Winnipeg has been patient in developing over the past few seasons.

The Jets’ 6-foot-7 defender has enjoyed success this season, posting career-high numbers in each category except assists. Though Stanley is one assist away from tying his career-high of 13.

Across 261 games, Stanley’s posted 57 points (14G, 43A) and 304 PIMs as a member of the Winnipeg Jets.

Rosen, a 22-year-old winger, has played 31 games with the Buffalo Sabres and posted eight points (3G, 5A) across three seasons. Buffalo’s 2021 14th overall draft selection has steadily improved throughout the past few seasons, and he’ll likely enjoy similar development trajectory in Winnipeg.

The Jets will have to negotiate a new contract with Rosen at the end of the 2025-26 deal, as his entry-level contract expires at the end of the season. Rosen’s teammate, Jacob Bryson, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Bryson, a seasoned veteran defender in the NHL, has 289 games under his belt and has stayed mostly at the NHL level since being drafted by Buffalo (99th overall) in 2017.

While I’m not entirely sure if Bryson sticks around beyond this season, he’ll be a solid addition to the Jets’ lineup. Rosen shows a ton of promise for Winnipeg, and if he gets opportunity in the NHL this season with the Jets, he could find chemistry that he can build around long-term.

Discover more from Inside The Rink

Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.

        Conrad Jack

Conrad Jack is a Manitoba-based media credentialed sportswriter covering the Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and the Manitoba Moose (AHL).
