{"id":488598,"date":"2026-03-06T07:22:53","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T07:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/488598\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T07:22:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T07:22:53","slug":"anaheim-ducks-acquire-d-john-carlson-from-washington-capitals-for-two-picks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/488598\/","title":{"rendered":"Anaheim Ducks acquire D John Carlson from Washington Capitals for two picks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/anaheim-ducks\/24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/anaheim-ducks\/24\" target=\"_blank\">Anaheim Ducks<\/a> have completed a trade with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/washington-capitals\/15\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/washington-capitals\/15\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Capitals<\/a> for defenceman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/john-carlson\/8474590\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/john-carlson\/8474590\" target=\"_blank\">John Carlson<\/a>, the team announced on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Capitals are receiving a conditional first-round pick in either the 2026 NHL Draft or the 2027 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft in exchange for Carlson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Carlson, 36, has 10 goals and 46 points in 55 games with the Capitals this season while averaging 22:52 of ice time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 6-foot-3, right-shot defenceman is on the final season of an eight-year, $64 million contract that carries a cap hit of $8 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Drafted 27th overall by the Capitals in 2008, Carlson has spent his entire 17-season career in Washington, recording 166 goals and 771 points in 1,143 career games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Carlson helped the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history in 2018, recording five goals and 20 points in 24 playoff games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Natick, Mass. native represented the United States at The Winter Olympics in 2014 in a fourth-place finish.
