The New Jersey Devils have been quiet during the NHL Trade Deadline<\/a>. Despite being involved in a ton of rumors<\/a> heading into the day, it\u2019s been quiet overall. As of this writing, no defensemen have moved despite five being involved in rumors. That includes Simon Nemec and Dougie Hamilton, who seem like the most likely to move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One player did get moved, but it didn\u2019t happen as you may think. The Devils placed Evgenii Dadonov, Maxim Tsyplakov, and Luke Glendening on waivers on Thursday. Two of those players cleared, but the one that was claimed is not who you might suspect.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Luke Glendening joined the Devils during training camp, signing a professional tryout. He just wanted a chance to earn a place on the roster, joining Kevin Rooney in that race. Both men looked decent enough, but Glendening is the one who got an NHL contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For about a month, it was a decent enough move. However, multiple injuries forced the Devils to play every night for most of the season. He was fine defensively and at faceoffs, but that was about it. The Devils couldn\u2019t afford to keep him in the lineup any longer, and they traded for Nick Bjugstad. That made him expendable, so it likely wasn\u2019t a surprise he was placed on waivers.<\/p>\n

Moving him there ahead of the trade deadline probably makes people think a bigger move was coming, but we haven\u2019t seen it yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of now, this is the only move the Devils have made. Every player was on the ice for practice this morning except Brett Pesce, who is dealing with an injury. That tells us no trade is particularly close.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of this writing, we\u2019re less than an hour from the deadline, and this appears to be all we\u2019re dealing with. Nobody is going to be happy if the \u201cbig\u201d move of the deadline was giving Glendening away to a division rival for free, but that\u2019s the way the cookie has been crumbling for Devils fans in 2025-26.<\/p>\n
