{"id":490819,"date":"2026-03-07T07:51:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T07:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/490819\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T07:51:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T07:51:17","slug":"ducks-defeat-canadiens-in-shootout-for-their-19th-comeback-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/490819\/","title":{"rendered":"Ducks defeat Canadiens in shootout for their 19th comeback win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/player\/chris-kreider-8475184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chris Kreider<\/a> got the tying goal with 42 seconds left in regulation and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/player\/alex-killorn-8473986\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Alex Killorn<\/a> scored in the sixth round of the shootout, sending the Ducks to a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/scores\/htmlreports\/20252026\/GS020987.HTM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">6-5 victory<\/a> over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Kreider matched his career best with a four-point night for the Ducks, who won for the seventh time in eight games despite blowing a two-goal lead in the third period. <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/player\/cutter-gauthier-8483445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cutter Gauthier<\/a>, who also scored in the shootout, and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/player\/leo-carlsson-8484153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Leo Carlsson<\/a> had a goal and an assist apiece.<\/p>\n<p>The Ducks improved to 8-0 in shootouts this season despite going just two for six against Montreal, with even <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/player\/mason-mctavish-8482745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mason McTavish<\/a> failing to score for the first time in six tries this season.<\/p>\n<p>Radko Gudas and Jackson LaCombe also scored, and Lukas Dostal stopped 23 shots in a rough performance before he came up big in the shootout. The Ducks earned their 19th comeback victory, matching Montreal for the NHL lead.<\/p>\n<p>Cole Caufield scored two of Montreal\u2019s three goals in the third period and Lane Hutson had a goal and two assists. Samuel Montembeault made 28 saves for the Habs, who have lost four of six.<\/p>\n<p>Gauthier got his 32nd goal just 33 seconds after the opening faceoff, giving him seven goals in five games since the Olympic break.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Suzuki answered moments later, securing the fifth consecutive 20-goal season for Montreal\u2019s captain.<\/p>\n<p>After Gudas got his first goal since Nov. 19, Carlsson added his 21st goal early in the third off a two-on-one pass from Kreider.<\/p>\n<p>           <img id=\"yt-img-9u_2J01lEmo\" class=\"absolute\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1772869877_416_hqdefault.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>                 <\/p>\n<p>But Caufield got his 36th and 37th goals of the season with Alexandre Carrier\u2019s tying goal with 8:13 left in regulation sandwiched between them.<\/p>\n<p>With the Ducks in desperation mode, Kreider skillfully redirected Jacob Trouba\u2019s shot from the point for the 21st goal of his first season with Anaheim.<\/p>\n<p>Olen Zellweger committed a tripping penalty in overtime, but Anaheim killed the four-on-three disadvantage.<\/p>\n<p>The Ducks played without new defenseman John Carlson, who flew to the West Coast on Friday after a late-night trade ended his 17 seasons with Washington.
