The first game after the trade deadline can be a window of opportunity for players looking for a chance to make an impression at the NHL level. Two of the newest Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> made their impact felt on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Alex Bump scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut, and Denver Barkey<\/a> added a goal on the way to a 4-3 shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How It Happened<\/p>\n

The Penguins opened the scoring on the power play three minutes into the game.\u00a0Tommy Novak<\/a> was open in the slot for his 13th goal of the season. Just 54 seconds later, Owen Tippett<\/a> scored his 20th goal of the season to tie the game at one.<\/p>\n

The teams exchanged quick goals early in the second. The Penguins took the lead again at 3:38 on Rickard Rakell<\/a>‘s 12th goal of the season. The Flyers tied it 68 seconds later as Bump scored\u00a0his first NHL goal to even things at two. Erik Karlsson<\/a> scored off a face-off 59 seconds after that to give the Penguins the lead again.<\/p>\n

The Flyers did tie the game back up at 10:03. Barkey finished off a nice pass from Matvei Michkov<\/a> for his third goal of the season.<\/p>\n

After a scoreless third with limited shots on goal, the Flyers had to kill off a penalty in overtime to reach the shootout. The lone goal went to who else but Trevor Zegras<\/a>, as Dan Vladar<\/a> took care of the Penguins to secure the win.<\/p>\n

\u2b50 Denver Barkey\u00a0\u2014 Barkey seemed to be everywhere in this one. His goal tied the game at three and he appeared to have good chemistry with Matvei Michkov.<\/p>\n

\u2b50\u2b50 Alex Bump\u00a0\u2014 What a day for Alex Bump. Making his NHL debut, he gets on the board with a nice shot from the slot. He certainly didn’t look out of place.<\/p>\n

\u2b50\u2b50\u2b50 Egor Chinakhov\u00a0\u2014 Chinakhov was Pittsburgh’s best player, with two helpers and several quality chances of his own.<\/p>\n

The Takeaway<\/p>\n

It’s a result that doesn’t completely help the Flyers in terms of playoff push, but a great sign to see young players continue to chip in and make a difference. From Bump’s debut to Barkey playing one of his best games in his young career, this is the most important thing for the remainder of the season, seeing what you have in these young players. And the successful shootout formula for the Flyers worked once again \u2013 Zegras with the goal, Vladar with the saves.<\/p>\n
