{"id":493592,"date":"2026-03-08T19:21:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T19:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/493592\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T19:21:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T19:21:22","slug":"sharks-learn-important-lesson-in-overtime-loss-vs-islanders-nbc-sports-bay-area-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/493592\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharks learn important lesson in overtime loss vs. Islanders \u2013 NBC Sports Bay Area &#038; California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Macklin Celebrini, Michael Misa and Yaroslav Askarov understandably were terse after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/game\/_\/gameId\/401803350\/islanders-sharks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss<\/a> to the New York Islanders.<\/p>\n<p>While the Sharks got a point in a meaningful game, and against a playoff team in the Islanders, they also clearly were frustrated by the officiating.<\/p>\n<p>There were questionable calls and non-calls, like Mathew Barzal running into Celebrini\u2019s head and Kiefer Sherwood getting the only penalty for going after Barzal, for example.<\/p>\n<p>But after the game, coach Ryan Warsofsky took an honestly refreshing big-picture view of the game and the rest of the Sharks\u2019 season.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not about the officials, it\u2019s not about the Islanders, it\u2019s about the Sharks.<\/p>\n<p>San Jose, one point behind the Seattle Kraken for the last wild-card berth in the West, are playing meaningful games in March for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Youngsters like Celebrini, Misa, Askarov and company are getting their first taste of NHL playoff-like hockey.<\/p>\n<p>That includes extra physicality and cheapshots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we\u2019re going to play in the playoffs, that\u2019s what it\u2019s going to be like. We\u2019ve got to get comfortable.
