Detroit Red Wings coach Todd McLellan doesn\u2019t want to talk about Marches of the past, but we\u2019re going to anyway.<\/p>\n

Three years in a row, the playoff chances of the Red Wings have flamed out in the third month of the calendar year. This March, Detroit is off to a 0-1-1 start.<\/p>\n

Ottawa and Columbus are closing in on the Wings.<\/p>\n

Ominous? Perhaps.<\/p>\n

This time, though, things should turn out differently.<\/p>\n

The moves the team has made in the past few days, both internally and externally, should address one of the major problems facing this team. That\u2019s a lack of consistent secondary scoring.<\/p>\n

Additions Should Boost Scoring<\/p>\n

Coming in through a trade with St. Louis, defenseman Justin Faulk<\/a> has 11 goals this season. That puts him in a tie for 12th among NHL rearguards.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a confident young man who has played a lot of games and produced year after year,\u201d McLellan said.<\/p>\n

“I’m pumped to have him. I think all the Wings fans should be super happy to have him.”<\/p>\n

David Perron, acquired from Ottawa for a second Red Wings tour, has 10 goals this season. It\u2019s his 16th NHL campaign in which he\u2019s accounting for double-digits in goals. From 2022 to 2024, Perron<\/a> scored 41 goals with the Red Wings.<\/p>\n

Summoned from the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins<\/a>, winger Michael Brandsegg-Nygard<\/a> is on fire. He\u2019s scored six goals and has nine points over the past five games.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t score in a nine-game stint with Detroit at the start of the season, but it appears the chance to play top-six minutes in GR has allowed Brandsegg-Nygard to find his scoring touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got to get some offense,\u201d McLellan said. \u201cWe need somebody who can score. Well, he\u2019s been doing that down there.\u201d<\/p>\n

So has forward John Leonard<\/a>, who was summoned from GR on Sunday. He\u2019s accounted for 27\u00a0 goals in 34 games with the Griffins. Leonard scored twice in a nine-game stint with Detroit earlier this season. He looked both comfortable and creative in a Red Wings uniform.<\/p>\n

Several Red Wings Stuck in Goal-Scoring Droughts<\/p>\n

Several Red Wings forwards are enduring significant dry spells when it comes to potting goals. It\u2019s been 16 games without a tally for Andrew Copp. Forget about goals; Michael Rasmussen is mired in a 19-game pointless drought.<\/p>\n

Oh, and by the way, with captain Dylan Larkin out, those players figure to be two of Detroit\u2019s four centers in Sunday\u2019s game at New Jersey against the Devils.<\/p>\n

Mason Appleton is 22 games without a goal, and James van Riemsdyk has gone goalless for 12 games. JT Compher hasn\u2019t scored over the past 10 games.<\/p>\n

Patrick Kane has one goal in 18 games, while Marco Kasper has a solitary goal over the past 10 games.<\/p>\n
