{"id":494206,"date":"2026-03-09T05:06:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T05:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/494206\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T05:06:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T05:06:40","slug":"newcomers-add-energy-in-flames-win-over-hurricanes-calgary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/494206\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcomers add energy in Flames win over Hurricanes &#8211; Calgary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CALGARY \u2013 The departures of Nazem Kadri and MacKenzie Weegar has created opportunity in Calgary and embracing it on Saturday were Joel Farabee and newly acquired Ryan Strome.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Farabee scored twice as part of a three-point night and Strome had a goal and an assist in his Flames debut as Calgary cooled off the red-hot Carolina Hurricanes with a 5-4 victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTough saying bye to some really good teammates and some really good guys,\u201d said Farabee, who moves into the team lead in goals with 15. \u201cBut on the flip side, I thought we got two really good players and I thought it provided a good energy in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The loss of Kadri \u2014 traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday \u2014 leaves a giant hole in Calgary\u2019s league-worst offence. Kadri led the club in scoring the past two seasons and was once again the top point-getter this season.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Coming off six consecutive 40-point seasons, Strome slides into Kadri\u2019s spot as a top-six centre and will look to get his season back on track. The two newest Flames combined on Calgary\u2019s opening goal 19 seconds into the second period with Mattaa setting up Strome at the side of the net to tie it 1-1. It was one of three unanswered goals in the second period as the Flames took the lead for good.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn absolutely insane day, busy 24 hours, telling my kids about getting traded and stuff, they\u2019re pretty emotional,\u201d said Strome, who woke up at 4 a.m. on Saturday to fly to Calgary. \u201cLong day, but as hockey players, the easiest thing to do is just go out there and play. So that was the easy part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He left a good first impression with coach Ryan Huska.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Sports<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see the composure that he has with the puck, and that\u2019s what 900 games will get you in the NHL,\u201d said the Flames bench boss. \u201cNice to see him score, for sure, early and have impact on a power play, and that\u2019s something that we need here moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huska is excited to have some veterans coming in to replace the experience they\u2019ve lost to help insulate the club\u2019s younger players. As a result, Farabee wore an \u2018A\u2019 for the first time on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one of those things you work toward your whole career, and for the organization and the guys in the room to think of me like that, and to get the honour to wear it, it meant a lot to me and my family,\u201d said Farabee. \u201cAll I can do now is just, you try and be a good leader.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FROST WARMS UP<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Frost also had a big night with a goal and two assists for Calgary (25-30-7) and Blake Coleman had a goal and an assist. Calgary snapped a four-game winless skid.<\/p>\n<p>Seth Jarvis, who also had a pair of assists, Sean Walker, Alexander Nikishin and Andrei Svechnikov scored for Carolina (40-17-6).
