A Vancouver Canucks’ completed trade from the summer of 2024 is starting to show that General Manager Patrik Allvin might have made a pretty big mistake.<\/p>\n

Trades can be unpredictable as while you might be confident you’ve received a decent return, it doesn’t always pan out as expected and it almost always looks worse when the player you’ve dealt goes on to break out with another organization.<\/p>\n

Vancouver Canucks’ completed trade shows GM Patrik Allvin made a big mistake<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, knowing that he would require waivers in order to be assigned to the American Hockey League and that there might not be a spot for him on their opening night roster, the Vancouver Canucks traded forward Vasily Podkolzin to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

The former first rounder went on to have a solid first season with the Oilers, registering 24 points in 82 games and followed that up with ten points in 22 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.<\/p>\n

Going into this season, Edmonton Oilers fans were curious as to what Podkolzin would have in store and it’s safe to say he’s probably exceeded expectations thus far, picking up his 15th goals on Sunday night against the Vegas Golden Knights, which is a new career high for him.<\/p>\n

“Podkolzin now has 15 goals, same as the #Canucks leader” Rob Williams of Daily Hive shared.<\/p>\n

As Williams mentions, Podkolzin would currently be tied for the Vancouver Canucks’ lead in goals this season and while his total might be a bit lower if he was still in the Lower Mainland, fans believe that this is a trade Patrik Allvin and the front office will come to regret.<\/p>\n

“Trading your 10th overall pick power forward to a divisional rival for a 4th round pick is a fire offense for this management.” @nhutminhphan said.<\/p>\n

The Moscow, Russia native is set to begin a new three-year contract next season that’ll see him earn $2.95 million annually and perhaps when that deal ends in 2029, the Canucks could look at bringing him back, depending on where they’re at with their rebuild and how Podkolzin develops.<\/p>\n
