The Bruins finish 2-0-1 against the Penguins this season, and picked up three of four points this weekend. However, the loss marks the Bruins’ seventh straight on the road.

They remain three points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card spot.

Sunday was a busy day around the league. Starting in Buffalo, where an Atlantic Division matchup showed out with 15 goals and over 100 penalty minutes. Out west, the St. Louis Blues, one of the biggest sellers at the trade deadline, have won four straight games.

A few teams had trades fall through at Friday’s deadline, or are dealing with consequential actions for making a 22-year-old right-shot defenseman available. Also, the Red Wings lost a goalie due to injury, but he “should be fine.”

And the website looks a little different. I am eager to hear what you think (if anything is pressing, my Twitter is open). Comments should be coming back in the next few days.

Happy Monday, here is today’s Daily Bean:

Boston Bruins

BRUINS LOSE: Well, the Boston Bruins (35-22-6) were up 3-0, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins (32-17-4) in overtime yesterday. The loss marks seven straight on the road for the Bruins, a feat that dates back to MLK weekend in January.

BREAK APART: It was not pretty. David Pastrnak snapped his goalless drought, and Pavel Zacha scored a hat trick, but both were quick to dismiss their feats. Marco Sturm used a timeout in the third period to calm the bench down and was ultimately okay with the point.

Prospects Update

PROSPECTS NOTEBOOK: It was a fun week for the Bruins’ prospects. Both minor league affiliates are heating up, and the NCAA prospects are getting ready for – or are in the middle of – their conference tournaments.

The Boston Bruins also announced that Frederic Brunet signed a two-year contract with a cap hit of $875,000.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Dan Kingerski was there yesterday, and he has coverage from the Penguins’ locker room. It was a shocking win, no matter which way you look at it. But some Penguins’ players knew what was needed to apply pressure against the Bruins’ defense.

Sportsnet: What a game. The Buffalo Sabres beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 8-7 last night, and aside from 15 goals, the game had 102 penalty minutes. The Sabres have won their last seven and now sit on top of the Atlantic Division.

SportsCenter (video via 𝕏): FIGHTS! Mark it four in a row for Jim Montgomery and the St. Louis Blues, who keep climbing away from better lottery odds.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils dangled second-overall pick Simon Nemec at the trade deadline. Now, his future is in limbo. Although his numbers have improved compared to last season, he might not be around for too much longer. James Nichols has more on Nemec’s future in Newark.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens did not make a move at the trade deadline. However, Kent Hughes said that the framework for a deal was in place, but fell through at the final moments of the deadline. Marc Dumont has more on the potentially significant trade in Montreal.

Detroit Hockey Now: In their game last night against New Jersey, goaltender John Gibson exited the game with an injury.
