San Jose (31-26-6) concludes its five-game road trip on Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers.

Askarov sustained a lower-body injury on Thursday in Boston as he warmed up prior to the Sharks’ morning skate at TD Garden. He was not available to play in the Sharks’ game that night against the Bruins, as Alex Nedeljkovic made 39 saves to help lead San Jose to a 4-2 win.

Nedeljkovic will start the Sharks’ game on Saturday night against the Canadiens. Laurent Brossoit, recalled from the Barracuda of the AHL on Friday, will back up Nedeljkovic against the Canadiens and is an option to start the Sharks’ game on Sunday in Ottawa.

After Tuesday, the Sharks return home to play the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday and the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

Askarov, a rookie, has received a majority of the Sharks’ starts this season and, in 40 games, is 19-17-3 with an .886 save percentage.

Nedeljkovic enters Saturday with a 12-9-3 record and a .902 save percentage in 28 games. In his last 10 games, Nedeljkovic has a 7-1-1 record and a .924 save percentage.

CHERNYSHOV TO PLAY

Winger Igor Chernyshov, recalled from the Barracuda on Thursday, will be in the lineup Saturday and start the game on a tantalizing Sharks’ top line alongside Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.

The Sharks drafted Smith fourth overall in 2023, and in 2024, took Celebrini first overall and Chernyhov 33rd overall. The three have combined for 255 points in just 277 NHL games. Chernyshov, 20, will also play on the Sharks’ second power play unit, with Celebrini and Smith on the top unit.

In the Sharks’ 7-5 win over the Canadiens on March 3 at SAP Center, Celebrini and Smith combined for two goals and four assists.

With Chernyshov on the top line, Collin Graf, who scored a shorthanded goal on Thursday, will play with Alex Wennberg and Kiefer Sherwood on the second line.

To make room for Chernyshov in the lineup, Ryan Reaves, who played Thursday, will be a scratch, and Adam Gaudette will move to San Jose’s fourth line alongside Zack Ostapchuk and Barclay Goodrow.

Based on line rushes, it appears forwards Philipp Kurashev and Pavol Regenda, and defenseman Nick Leddy will be the Sharks’ healthy scratches.

#SJSharks lines at morning skate:
Chernyshov-Celebrini-Smith
Graf-Wennberg-Sherwood
Eklund-Misa-Toffoli
Goodrow-Ostapchuk-Gaudette

Orlov-Klingberg
Ferraro-Mukhamadullin
Dickinson-Desharnais

— Max Miller (@Real_Max_Miller) March 14, 2026

Chernyshov also mostly played alongside Celebrini when he was with the Sharks from Dec. 15 to Jan. 22 after Smith and Kurashev were both placed on injured reserve.
