The situation in Toronto has heated up after a dangerous hit left Auston Matthews<\/a> with a season-ending injury. His agent blasted the league after Radko Gudas received only a five-game suspension. The incident happened during a game between the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> and the Anaheim Ducks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The NHL<\/a>\u2019s Department of Player Safety ruled that Gudas committed kneeing. Officials said Gudas pushed his knee forward and made direct contact with Matthews. The hit forced Matthews to the ice during the second period. On ice, officials had given Gudas a major penalty and a game misconduct during the game.<\/p>\n

Player safety explained<\/a> its decision, saying, \u201cGudas leads with his knee, jutting it forward and making forceful, direct contact with Matthews, causing him to fall to the ice. This is kneeing. It is important to note that Gudas is in control of this play.\u201d<\/p>\n

That explanation led to the five-game suspension for Gudas.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Matthews\u2019 injury has made the situation worse for Toronto. Matthews suffered a Grade 3 MCL tear and a quad contusion in his left leg. The captain will miss the rest of the regular season. Doctors will evaluate him again in two weeks.<\/p>\n

What did Auston Matthews\u2019 agent say for NHL\u2019s 5-game suspension decision?<\/p>\n

Matthews\u2019 agent Judd Moldaver reacted strongly after the ruling. NHL reporter Chris Johnston shared the comments on X. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of the obvious severity of the play, I am very disappointed and shocked that the league would allow for such a ruling,\u201d Moldaver said. \u201cA phone hearing and 5 games is just laughable and preposterous. While the hearing process is pre-fixed in our CBA, that there was no further discipline is a reckless and ridiculous position for player safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moldaver also questioned the league\u2019s discipline process. He said players deserve better protection after serious hits. According to him, the decision damages trust among players across the league. He even said the player safety department should face consequences for the ruling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe player safety department should be suspended,\u201d Moldaver said.<\/p>\n

Matthews ends the season with 53 points in 60 games, but the debate around the suspension continues across the league.<\/p>\n
