{"id":504355,"date":"2026-03-15T07:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T07:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/504355\/"},"modified":"2026-03-15T07:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T07:24:09","slug":"losing-streak-over-breaking-apart-bruins-shootout-win-over-capitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/504355\/","title":{"rendered":"Losing Streak Over: Breaking Apart Bruins\u2019 Shootout Win Over Capitals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 For the first time since January 17, the Bruins picked up a win on the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonhockeynow.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Bruins<\/a> (37-23-6) never led, but beat the Washington Capitals (33-27-8) in a shootout, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in the nation\u2019s capital. <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/charlie-mcavoy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie McAvoy<\/a> scored twice, and <a href=\"http:\/\/puckpedia.com\/player\/fraser-minten\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fraser Minten<\/a> sealed the win with the game\u2019s only shootout goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemembered seeing a couple videos of him maybe biting on a fake in the pre-scout,\u201d Fraser Minten said about his <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jackstudley13\/status\/2032944571953397966?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">shootout winner<\/a>. \u201cSo I just went in and tried to watch for that, and it ended up working out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Fraser Minten on his shootout winner:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remembered seeing a couple videos of him maybe biting on a fake in the pre-scout\u2026 ended up working out\u2026 I&#8217;m always ready for it.&#8221; \ud83d\udc4f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rRXYY5NGSn\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/rRXYY5NGSn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NESN (@NESN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NESN\/status\/2032960019138752639?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">March 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Zero of the first 17 shootout attempts crossed the goal line; there were five posts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The nine-round shootout is tied for the longest in the NHL this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsually, it\u2019s fun,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AfaEXdMNe0c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Sturm said<\/a> about the shootout. \u201cBut with our record, I don\u2019t know, it gets me nervous sometimes. So, even today, that\u2019s something we\u2019ve been addressing a little bit in the past during the break, trying to get better. We still got work to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bruins entered this game 2-3 in the shootout this season, but they lost each of their last three.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves and finished with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naturalstattrick.com\/game.php?season=20252026&amp;game=21044\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">0.56<\/a> goals saved above expected. He stopped all six high-danger shots he faced, but allowed in two low-danger goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Capitals <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/capitals\/status\/2032915083362263466?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">opened<\/a> the scoring, then <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/capitals\/status\/2032930890809016653?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">regained<\/a> a lead with shots from the point. Jeremy Swayman said the first look he had was on the replay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, that\u2019s an identity thing that they\u2019re good at,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/4O8RquYFejg?si=t07DfRT_Aawk2dCY\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Swayman said<\/a> about the Capitals. \u201cWe saw a stat before the game; they\u2019re the No. 1 defensive generated offense in the league. We knew that was a strength of theirs, and again, they played to their strengths tonight and gave us a good battle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it was Charlie McAvoy who tied the game twice, keeping the Bruins in the game with a 55 mph <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nhlbruins\/status\/2032920943543152855?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">shot<\/a> from the point and a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nhlbruins\/status\/2032934819718430737?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">redirection<\/a> in the net-front.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was front foot, and I just was like, \u2018I\u2019m shooting this thing.\u2019 So I got it off, and then you know, you just get lucky there. But I guess, maybe a friendly reminder to myself to just shoot the puck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even with the road troubles, McAvoy has prevailed. With his two goals on Saturday, he extended his road point streak to seven games (4-6\u201310).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always need a driver,\u201d Marco Sturm said about McAvoy. \u201cIn the room, off the ice, on the ice. He has a little swagger now, especially after the Olympics. It\u2019s nice to see, because you need those drivers. Especially when they get rewarded, that\u2019s even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the power play came up empty again.<\/p>\n<p>The Bruins went 0-for-4 on Saturday, bringing their post-break total to 4-for-32 (12.5%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The penalty kill went 3-for-3 and is now 21-for-24 (87.5%) since the break.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Swayman and Charlie McAvoy said they did not know that their last road win was in January.
