WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 The Boston Bruins<\/a> (37-23-6) snapped their seven-game road losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals (33-27-8) at Capital One Arena.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Charlie McAvoy<\/a> (9) scored twice, both to tie the game, and Fraser Minten<\/a> buried the game-winner in the ninth round of the shootout.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jeremy Swayman<\/a> picked up his 26th win of the season, a career high. He made 25 saves, and stopped all nine Capitals\u2019 attempts in the shootout.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The win marked the first Bruins\u2019 road win since January 17.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ahead of the game, Marco Sturm changed up the forward lines<\/a>, moving Elias Lindholm<\/a> and Marat Khusnutdinov<\/a> to the third line with Tanner Jeannot<\/a>. But nothing came from it in the first 20 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Capitals outshot the Bruins 9-7 in the first period.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Matt Roy<\/a> scored<\/a> 1:15 into the second period.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Swayman stretched out<\/a> to make a toe save on Rasmus Sandin while the Bruins were on the power play. The Bruins did not convert on four man-advantages Saturday, bringing them to 4-for-32 since the Olympic break.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Charlie McAvoy responded<\/a> for the Bruins at the 11:57 mark. He connected on a long shot that made its way through Fraser Minten and beat Logan Thompson<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The shot registered at 55 miles per hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Capitals outshot the Bruins 19-18 through 40 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rasmus Sandin<\/a> gave the Capitals the lead with his fourth goal<\/a> of the season three minutes into the third period.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the 5:20 mark of the third period, Anthony Beauvillier took a minor penalty for cross-checking, which sent the Bruins to a 5-on-3. Marco Sturm used his timeout, and Steve Spott drew up a play.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Capitals killed off both penalties.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With just under 10 minutes to go in regulation, Pavel Zacha<\/a> drove a shot on goal, and Charlie McAvoy got his stick on the puck. His tipped<\/a> shot beat Thompson low to tie the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But this one, like many during the away losing streak, needed overtime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The entire five minutes were spent at 4-on-4, as the Bruins failed to convert on a power play that carried into overtime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The game went to a nine-round shootout<\/a>, and Fraser Minten scored the game-winning goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bruins pick up a much-needed two points as the playoff push continues. They will travel to Newark, NJ, for a game against the Devils<\/a> (32-31-12) on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
