Mason McTavish tied the game 1-1 with under a minute remaining in regulation, but Ryan Donato tallied the overtime winner for the Blackhawks. That game marked the first time that Joel Quenneville had returned to the United Center since being hired as the Ducks’ head coach.

Last time out, the Blackhawks dropped a fifth consecutive game with a 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators. After taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, the Predators rallied in the second period to grab the lead and never looked back. Donato, Ryan Greene, and Teuvo Teravainen were the goal scorers for Chicago. Arvid Soderblom stopped 25 of 29 shots faced to earn the loss in goal.

The Ducks, currently first in the Pacific Division, are coming off a 5-4 comeback win over the Los Angeles Kings in their last time out on Friday. The Kings led 4-2 early in the third period, but the Ducks rallied for two late goals and pulled out the extra point in the shootout. Leo Carlsson scored his 13th goal of the season and added two assists. Chris Kreider, Olen Zellweger, and Pavel Mintyukov were the other goal scorers for Anaheim.

Here’s everything to note before puck drops at 2:30 p.m. CT in Chicago.

Blackhawks Regular Season Notes (Last Five Games)

After leading 2-0 through two periods, the Blackhawks surrendered three unanswered goals in the third to fall 3-2 to the Seattle Kraken. A controversial penalty call also impacted the outcome at the United Center.

Well, that wasn’t very good. The Blackhawks suffered their worst loss of the season in the back end of their back-to-back, falling 9-3 to the Buffalo Sabres in embarrassing fashion. It’s the first time the Blackhawks have allowed nine goals in a game since 2011.

The Blackhawks went toe-to-toe with the NHL’s top team, the Colorado Avalanche, but still had their losing streak extended to three games. Scott Wedgewood got the better of Spencer Knight in a goaltending duel at the United Center.

Another red-hot Central Division opponent, the Minnesota Wild, came into the United Center on Wednesday. Similar to Sunday, the Blackhawks outplayed the Wild for most of the night, but their losing streak was extended to four games with a 4-3 overtime loss. Another controversial call helped Kirill Kaprizov net the overtime winner on the power play.

The losing streak has reached five games after another one-goal loss on home ice to a Central Division opponent. The Blackhawks were defeated 4-3 by the last-place Nashville Predators. It’s been a dreadful start to the four-game homestand.

Projected Blackhawks Lineup

Forward Lines

Ryan Greene — Connor Bedard – Andre Burakovsky

Teuvo Tervainen — Frank Nazar — Tyler Bertuzzi

Ryan Donato — Jason Dickinson — Ilya Mikheyev

Colton Dach — Oliver Moore

Defensive Pairings

Alex Vlasic-Louis Crevier

Wyatt Kaiser-Artyom Levshunov

Matt Grzelcyk-Connor Murphy

Sam Rinzel

Scratched

F — Sam Lafferty, F — Landon Slaggert

Injured

G — Laurent Brossoit (hip), F — Nick Foligno (hand)

***

The Blackhawks will not hold a morning skate on Sunday, so their official lineup is to be determined.

Teuvo Teravainen is listed as questionable after missing Saturday’s practice session. Should Teravainen play, the Blackhawks will likely use the same lineup as Friday against Nashville.

If Teravainen doesn’t play, Landon Slaggert will likely draw into the lineup. Slaggert and Sam Lafferty are expected to be the two healthy scratches.

Ducks Projected Lineup

Forward Lines

Cutter Gauthier — Leo Carlsson — Troy Terry

Chris Kreider — Mason McTavish — Beckett Sennecke

Nikita Nesterenko — Ryan Poehling — Alex Killorn

Ross Johnston — Ryan Strome — Frank Vatrano

Defensive Pairings

Jackson LaCombe-Radko Gudas

Olen Zellweger-Jacob Trouba

Pavel Mintyukov-Drew Helleson

Scratched

F — Jansen Harkins, D — Ian Moore

Injured

G — Lukas Dostal (upper body), F — Mikael Granlund (lower body)

Projected Goaltending Matchup

Spencer Knight (7-5-4, 2.47 GAA, .920 Sv%, 1 SO) vs. Petr Mrazek (3-3-0, 3.69 GAA, .881 Sv%, 0 SO)

Knight is set to make his 17th start of the season in net for the Blackhawks. The 24-year-old stopped 20 of 24 shots faced to earn the loss to the Minnesota Wild in his last appearance on Sunday. Knight is 4-0-0 with a 0.99 GAA, .968 Sv%, and two shutouts in four career starts against Anaheim.

Mrazek will make his seventh start of the season for the Ducks. The former Blackhawks goaltender stopped 23 of 27 shots in a 5-4 loss to the Vancouver Canucks in his most recent start on Wednesday. Mrazek is 5-2-2 with a 2.57 GAA, .918 Sv%, and two shutouts in 10 career starts against Chicago.

2025-26 Results vs. Ducks

Sunday marks the second of three meetings between the Blackhawks and Ducks in the 2025-26 season.
