There were plenty of general manager\u2013related storylines making headlines today. Brad Treliving commented on the suspension given to Radko Gudas<\/a> by the NHL DoPS and was reportedly livid with some of his players on the Toronto Maple Leafs following the team\u2019s lack of response to a dirty hit. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers may have found a new option in goal\u2014but it\u2019s not the player they invested significant assets in, adding another twist to their ongoing crease situation.<\/p>\n

The day wrapped up with a major international announcement, as the World Cup of Hockey 2028 was officially confirmed. Edmonton, Calgary, and Prague will serve as host cities for the tournament, bringing elite international hockey back to the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Leafs Still Feeling Effects of Matthews Incident<\/p>\n

The Maple Leafs\u2019 lack of response after the Gudas hit on their captain, Auston Matthews<\/a>, has been a major story. Today, Elliotte Friedman added to the fire by discussing the manager\u2019s reaction to Matthews\u2019 injury as a guest on Sportsnet 590 The Fan.<\/a> There are questions about accountability and team identity.<\/p>\n

Friedman noted that Treliving called some players individually and was livid about the situation. He has a reputation for building tough teams, and the Maple Leafs\u2019 response to this situation being anything but must have rubbed him the wrong way. Mike Futa added that a GM is not calling players unless he feels the need to, and why he felt the need to address this in particular is up for debate.<\/p>\n

Oilers Look to Third to Help With Goalie Woes<\/p>\n

The Edmonton Oilers\u2019 goaltending situation looks much different than it did at the start of the season, and after a roller-coaster year, they may have finally found their guy.<\/p>\n

Connor Ingram<\/a> entered the season as Edmonton\u2019s third-string goalie and played 11 games in the AHL before getting a look with the big club. But as NFL great Tom Brady once said, \u201cIf you get a chance to be on the field, don\u2019t mess it up\u2014you may never get another one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ingram got his shot on the \u201cfield\u201d (ice) and has run with his chance so far. While he hasn\u2019t been perfect, the Oilers don\u2019t need perfect. They need solid, and he has looked exactly like that in his 21 games. He was given the label of starting goaltender, and if he can hold onto that role for the rest of the season, it\u2019s because he\u2019s earned it. Maybe the third time will be the charm for this year\u2019s Oilers.<\/p>\n

The World Cup of Hockey, Set for 2028<\/p>\n

The much-loved World Cup of Hockey Event is returning in 2028, the NHL announced. Jointly organized by the NHL and the NHL Players\u2019 Association (NHLPA), the league announced on Monday that Edmonton, Calgary, and Prague will be hosts in 2028. Eight nations will compete in a mix of pool play and the knockout stages.<\/p>\n

This will be the fourth World Cup of Hockey, with the other three taking place in 1996, 2004, and most recently in 2016.<\/p>\n
