{"id":507792,"date":"2026-03-17T13:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T13:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/507792\/"},"modified":"2026-03-17T13:18:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T13:18:14","slug":"st-louis-blues-doug-armstrong-to-step-down-as-team-canadas-olympic-general-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/507792\/","title":{"rendered":"St.Louis Blues\u2019 Doug Armstrong to step down as Team Canada\u2019s Olympic general manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has informed Hockey Canada that he is stepping down from his role as the Canadian men\u2019s Olympic general manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\">according to TSN <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\">Hockey Insider <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\">Pierre LeBrun.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 61-year-old Armstrong has held the title since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s time for a change,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7123657\/2026\/03\/17\/doug-armstrong-canada-olympics-blues\/?source=emp_shared_article\" target=\"_blank\">Armstrong said to LeBrun.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed every aspect of it. Obviously, you wish you could go out on top. But it would be selfish to want to do it again. It\u2019s such a great experience, and I think more people should enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Armstrong\u2019s resume includes three IIHF World Championship gold medals and two silver medals, while also being on the management staff for Olympic championships in 2010 and 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed Team Canada since 2002 when Bob Nicholson gave me an opportunity to work under Lanny McDonald at the World Championship, which was a thrill of a lifetime because of who Lanny is,\u201d Armstrong said. \u201cIt just kind of snowballed from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Armstrong will also conclude his tenure as Blues\u2019 general manager at the end of the NHL season, moving into a president of hockey operations role while Alex Steen takes over as general manager.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI told the ownership group at the time that I love to manage, I enjoy the process, but I think there\u2019s a shelf life for everything,\u201d Armstrong said. \u201cHaving the same voice leading the franchise, for me, it had run its course. It wasn\u2019t just the players, but it\u2019s the trainers, the coaches, the marketing department, the finance department. The rhythms needed to change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve been in St. Louis 18 years, 16 as a manager. It just felt the time was right to have a new voice come in. When I told Mr. Stillman my feelings, he then talked about what\u2019s next.
