After falling into the loss column for the first time in nearly two months<\/a> on Monday, the Dallas Stars<\/a> will look to start another streak on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

And there couldn\u2019t be a better team to start one against.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s matchup will pit the top two teams in the NHL against each other<\/a>. They also just so happen to be in the same division.<\/p>\n

The Avalanche currently sit three points ahead of the Stars in the standings and have a game in hand over Dallas. The implications of the Stars passing the Avalanche would be huge, as not only would they take over the lead for the Presidents\u2019 Trophy and seal home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs, but they\u2019d also avoid a tough first-round matchup with the Minnesota Wild, currently third place in the division.<\/p>\n

A win on Wednesday would put the Stars just a single point back of the Avs.<\/p>\n

Before Monday night\u2019s streak-snapping loss to the Mammoth, the Stars hadn\u2019t lost a game to a non-Colorado opponent in nearly two months.<\/p>\n

An overtime loss to Colorado on March 6<\/a> was the only thing keeping Dallas\u2019 15-game points streak from being an outright win streak.<\/p>\n

That game featured the Stars coughing up a late lead thanks to a Valeri Nichuskin goal with 14 seconds left in regulation. The Avs would then win it in overtime.<\/p>\n

Dallas won the teams\u2019 previous matchup in October, and Wednesday will be the third of four regular-season meetings between the teams.<\/p>\n

Robo loves the Avs<\/p>\n

Forward Jason Robertson enters Wednesday\u2019s contest riding a four-game point streak vs. Colorado, earning seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) during that span, including putting up two assists in Dallas\u2019 last game against them on March 6. <\/p>\n

Through 16 career games played against the Avalanche, Robertson has tallied 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists), averaging 1.25 points per game. His 1.25 points per game against them ranks eighth in the league among all active NHL skaters who have played Colorado at least 10 times in their careers.<\/p>\n
