The Dallas Stars announced Wednesday that they have acquired defenseman Jack Anderson on a two-year, entry-level contract worth $2.1 million with a cap hit of $1.5 million.

“Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jack Anderson to a two-year, entry-level contract that will begin in 2026-27,” the team said in a statement. “Anderson will report to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remainder of the year.”

Anderson, 23, recently completed his senior season at Michigan Technological University, recording 24 points in 39 games. The rookie also served as one of the team’s captains during this period.

Jack Anderson provides affordable depth as Dallas continues developing blue line talent

Anderson arrives as a future piece for head coach Glen Gulutzan’s team, fitting the profile of blue line players Dallas has been developing.

The defenseman was named CCHA Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-CCHA First Team, arriving in Dallas with strong credentials.

Anderson will begin his development in the AHL before making the jump to the NHL. This stage should help him establish himself as a middle-pairing defenseman with significant penalty-killing duties and, above all, heavy usage in offensive situations – testing whether his offensive breakout is sustainable against professional competition.

This move makes sense for the Stars as he arrives as a college free agent, providing “cheap” depth at the bottom of the franchise’s defensive corps. Anderson bolsters the team’s pool of big, competitive defensemen. If he eventually makes the jump to the NHL, it would represent a significant bonus from a low-risk gamble.
