He is heralded for his raw talent on the ice. He seems to have it all: skilled stickhandling; speed and sharp edgework; a powerful, accurate shot; great hockey sense; and vision. He is a playmaker and consistently finds creative ways to move the puck across the ice, pass to a teammate, or take a shot himself.

Related: 2026 NHL Draft Guide

While Hermansson does contribute defensively to a degree, he is not quite a fully-rounded two-way player. He will need to bulk up to add more power and physicality to his frame, which will be an added advantage to an already skillful player. This season with MoDo Hockey, he has played 50 games at both the U20 and HockeyAllsvenskan levels, where he’s totaled 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists).

The Hockey Writers 2026 NHL Entry Draft Guide (The Hockey Writers)

While Hermansson is consistently a superior player within MoDo Hockey, he really stood out on the first line at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this year while playing alongside Milton Gastrin and Jesper Olofsson. He and Gastrin each had a two-goal game on the same night. He was chosen to play on the Hlinka Gretzky team with more experienced players because of its lack of offensive depth —a true testament to his offensive abilities. He totaled 11 points (six goals, five assists) in five games and helped Sweden win the silver medal.

Elton Hermansson – NHL Draft Projection

Hermansson appears to be a shoo-in for the first round of the NHL draft, with most scouts and prospect reports ranking him somewhere in the mid-teens. He will be a great asset for a team looking to add some offensive depth to their middle-six, especially if they are looking for a creative playmaker to bring fresh moves to the ice. He will likely need some continued development time either at the junior level or on an affiliate team in order to bulk up and hone in his defensive game. However, in just a season or two, Hermansson will be an incredible offensive asset to the team that picks him up.

Other Draft Profiles

Quotables

“Hermansson is superbly skilled with the puck, able to stickhandle through the tightest of spaces, and has the speed and edgework to make opponents look silly. To go along with his lethal arsenal of shots he has the hockey sense and playmaking ability to drive play.” –Chris Ralph Shankara, Upside Hockey

“His vision stands out, making him a great playmaker with the puck on his stick, and he has the hands to put himself in a strong position to make a play. On top of his all-around playmaking, his goal-scoring makes him a true threat in the offensive zone.” –Jordan Orth, The Hockey Writers

“He’s constantly finding the shooting lanes, opening things up and walking in for a quick wrist shot. He has a powerful one-timer and can also display his playmaking abilities, spotting seams and passing lanes to connect with his teammates. He attacks intently using the combination of speed and puck-control in high-traffic areas to always get the inside track on defenders.” –Peter Baracchini, The Hockey Writers

“I believe Hermansson projects as equal parts playmaker and shooter. He’s responsible defensively and has some bump to his game on occasion. In time he will add more strength to his frame, which should result in more power and separation with his skating in open ice.” -Jason Bukala, Sportsnet

Strengths

Creative playmaking

Skilled stickhandling

Shooting accuracy

Speedy skating

Under Construction/Improvements to Make

Needs to bulk up and develop physicality

Needs to develop his defensive game

NHL Potential

Hermansson will be a valuable asset in the NHL. His numbers don’t lie, especially in tough international competition like the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. His speed, skills, and playmaking are among the most elite in this year’s draft class. He is shaping up to be a solid middle-six forward for his team and could easily become a top-six player with continued development of his game. Any team looking for a skater to reliably contribute to their offense and mesh with their best goal-scorers will find Hermansson intriguing.

Risk-Reward Analysis

Risk – 2/5,
