Top Detroit Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg<\/a> will be making his AHL debut on Friday with the Grand Rapids Griffins<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very excited, and it\u2019s very nice to be here,\u201d Genborg told Griffins play-by-play voice, Bob Kaser. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a hard game, of course. First game here, it\u2019s a lot of new things. For me, I\u2019m just gonna go out there and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Wings organization is anxious to see how the 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-winger\u2019s rugged style of hockey transfers to the smaller North American ice surface. Genborg, still only 18, certainly brings an element that is lacking on the current Detroit roster.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing of my game is to play physical, and tonight I\u2019m gonna show that,\u201d Genborg said.<\/p>\n

Genborg recently signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Red Wings that will kick in to start the 2026-27 season. He\u2019s playing the rest of the AHL season on an amateur tryout offer. The plan is for Genborg to play next season in the SHL with Timra. He has one year remaining on his contract with that club. The Red Wings chose Genborg 40th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

Grand Rapids will also be welcoming center Amadeus Lombardi<\/a> back from the injured list. And winger John Leonard has been returned to the club from the Red Wings. In a related move, forward Jackson Jutting was released from his PTO.<\/p>\n

Red Wings Pick Also Ready For Transition<\/p>\n

Anton Johansson is currently helping Leksand stave off relegation in the SHL relegation playoff against HV71. HV71 leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.<\/p>\n

Once his commitment to Leksand ends, the defenseman Detroit selected 105th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft will also be on his way across the Atlantic Ocean to join the Red Wings organization. Only his move will be a permanent one.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course it will be fun, but it\u2019s not something I\u2019m thinking about right now,\u201d Johansson told Swedish website Aftonbladet<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to get the chance. But I\u2019m here and now, and we\u2019re going to keep Leksand in the SHL. And that\u2019s what I\u2019m focusing on right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Wings vice-president of hockey operations Nicklas Lidstrom confirmed that the plan is to get Johansson to Grand Rapids as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, the plan is for him to go over,\u201d Lidstrom said. \u201cThe first step will be the farm team, but it depends a bit on what it looks like up in the NHL team.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbove all, the idea is to come in and play directly in the farm team and get a good role.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a rough campaign for Johansson. Along with Leksand\u2019s relegation battle, he also dealt with a concussion, oddly enough, the result of a hit delivered by Genborg<\/a> in an SHL game. And his father, Thomas Johansson, was fired as sporting director of Leksand.<\/p>\n

In one sense, that last development is proving to be a blessing in disguise for Anton Johansson.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s more father-and-son talk than boss-and-son talk,\u201d Anton Johansson told Swedish Hockeynews<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s actually quite nice.\u201d<\/p>\n
