T.J. Hughes is proving that talent always finds the spotlight, even without being drafted. The Michigan captain is dominating the NCAA.

The captain of the Michigan Wolverines, who grew up admiring Carey Price and Andrei Markov, is currently dominating the American college scene.

His chemistry with Michael Hage, the Montreal Canadiens’ top prospect, is seamless. The two linemates display elite vision, and their offensive production has Michigan sitting atop the NCAA standings.

Hage is greatly benefiting from his captain’s experience to refine his transition game. Hughes also notes that the Canadiens prospect has exceptional playmaking instincts, often preferring to pass rather than shoot.

A complete profile drawing Montreal Canadiens’ attention

The Montreal Canadiens are closely monitoring the progression of this electrifying duo. Hughes brings strong execution and quick puck movement-qualities highly valued by Montreal’s front office to support its rebuild.

It’s clear that having a leader capable of stabilizing the defensive game while producing offensively is a major asset. His +15 rating reflects his overall impact on the ice this season.

The forward is finishing his college stint with noticeable physical maturity. His transition to the professional ranks appears imminent once the NCAA spring tournament concludes.

“My grandpa was a Habs fan, my dad was a Habs fan, so I grew up watching them. Going to games at the Bell Centre with my family, that was special.

I grew up watching Pacioretty. Him, Price, Markov, Gallagher. So when I found out he was joining the staff (Michigan’s coaching staff), I was so excited.”

– T.J. Hughes

Several NHL organizations have already shown concrete interest in his services. For Canadiens fans, the idea of seeing Hughes and Hage bring their chemistry to the Bell Centre remains a compelling possibility.
