SAN JOSE \u2014 The San Jose Sharks, already without forward Tyler Toffoli,<\/a> will also not have defensemen Vincent Desharnais <\/a>for Saturday\u2019s game against the Philadelphia Flyers, and potentially for at least the start of their three-game road trip next week.<\/p>\n

Desharnais is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said, and it remains unclear whether Toffoli will travel with the team<\/a> on Monday when it leaves for Nashville. The Sharks play the Predators on Tuesday, the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.<\/p>\n

With Desharnais out, John Kingberg will draw back into the lineup. During Friday\u2019s practice, Klingberg, who was scratched from the Sharks\u2019 game on Thursday, a 5-3 loss<\/a> to the Buffalo Sabres, was paired with Dmitry Orlov.<\/p>\n

Warsofsky said that one forward was a game-time decision for Saturday. If that forward, which Warsofsky did not name, is unavailable, Pavol Regenda will be in the lineup. Regenda was not included in the Sharks\u2019 four lines during Friday\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n

Toffoli, the Sharks\u2019 third-leading scorer with 44 points in 67 games, sustained a lower-body injury during the first period of Thursday\u2019s game against the Buffalo Sabres and did not return. Toffoli was ruled out of playing against the Flyers on Friday.<\/p>\n

Warsofsky said Desharnais\u2019 injury is more the result of an accumulation over time than any one incident. Desharnais also missed 23 games from late November to mid-January due to what he said was an elbow injury that\u00a0required surgery.<\/a><\/p>\n

Desharnais has five points in 40 games this season<\/a> and, when healthy, has been one of the Sharks\u2019 top penalty-killing defensemen.<\/p>\n

In 10 games this month, Desharnais has averaged just under 21 minutes of ice time per game, and was the Sharks\u2019 second-leading penalty killer<\/a> (32:15) behind defenseman Mario Ferraro (34:18).<\/p>\n

The Sharks right now are also dealing with injuries to No. 1 goalie Yaroslav Askarov (lower body), winger Igor Chernyshov (upper body), and center Ty Dellandrea (lower body).<\/p>\n

Askarov and Chernyshov both skated apart from the Sharks on Friday, but it remains unclear when either player might begin practicing with the team. For the second straight day, Dellandrea skated with the Sharks while wearing an orange non-contact jersey. He remains week-to-week, Warsofsky said.<\/p>\n

The Sharks have lost three straight games and entered Friday in 11th place in the Western Conference with 70 points, two points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild-card spot. The Sharks are also one point behind both the Seattle Kraken and the Nashville Predators.<\/p>\n
