{"id":520260,"date":"2026-03-24T14:55:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T14:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/520260\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T14:55:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T14:55:17","slug":"anton-frondell-recalled-by-chicago-blackhawks-ahead-of-road-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/520260\/","title":{"rendered":"Anton Frondell recalled by Chicago Blackhawks ahead of road trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Keep updated on all the injury news and roster updates from around the NHL with daily Ice Chips.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Blackhawks<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/chicago-blackhawks\/16\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/chicago-blackhawks\/16\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> have recalled 2025 third overall pick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/anton-frondell\/8485391\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/anton-frondell\/8485391\" target=\"_blank\">Anton Frondell<\/a> from Djurg\u00e5rdens IF of the Swedish Hockey League ahead of Tuesday\u2019s game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-islanders\/2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/new-york-islanders\/2\" target=\"_blank\">New York Islanders<\/a>, the team announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Frondell, 18, inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blackhawks over the summer following the draft, and now comes over to North America following 43 appearances as a rookie for Djurg\u00e5rdens this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The left-shot forward recorded 20 goals and eight assists in his first season of Sweden\u2019s top-flight league, becoming just the fourth player in SweHL history to reach the 20-goal mark in his age-18 season. He also helped his country to gold at the World Juniors in January, where he finished as the team\u2019s leading goal scorer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It is currently unclear whether Frondell will make his NHL debut on Tuesday, but he is expected to appear at some point over the team\u2019s four-game road trip running through March 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Chicago is currently in last place in the Central Division, holding a record of 26-31-13 for 65 points on 70 games played.<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa Senators<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/ottawa-senators\/9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/ottawa-senators\/9\" target=\"_blank\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> have called up Carter Yakemchuk and Jorian Donovan from Belleville (AHL) ahead of Tuesday night\u2019s game against the Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The news comes after blueliners Thomas Chabot and Lassi Thomson both left Monday night\u2019s game against the New York Rangers with injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Chabot appeared to sustain a right wrist\/arm injury, while Thomson appeared to suffer a lower-body injury after he left the ice limping and favouring his left leg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ottawa played with just four defencemen for over 30 minutes in Monday\u2019s contest, and head coach Travis Green later said both blueliners would \u201cbe out a while\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Yakemchuk and Donovan could both make their NHL debuts Tuesday to fill the void on the Senators\u2019 injury-ridden blueline for an important clash against Detroit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Yakemchuk has 10 goals and 36 points in 50 games this season in Belleville and was named the AHL\u2019s Player of the Week last Friday. He was selected seventh overall in the 2024 draft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Donovan has four goals and 21 points in 58 games this season. The 2022 fifth-round pick could be form the fist father-son combo to both play for the Senators with his father Shean having also played for the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Senators have played to a 37-24-9 record this season and are two points out from the final final-card spot in the Eastern Confernence<\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh Penguins<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will not play Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche and is considered day-to-day with a hand injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Malkin, 39, logged 16:05 of ice time in Sunday\u2019s 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes, finishing without a point for the first time in four games since returning from a slashing suspension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Magnitogorsk, Russia native has scored 15 goals with 37 assists in 50 games played this season as he approaches unrestricted free agency on July 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Malkin has played his entire 20-year career with the Penguins, winning three Stanley Cups, two Art Ross Trophies, the 2006-07 Calder, and the 2009 Conn Smythe. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Pittsburgh called up forward Ville Koivunen for Tuesday\u2019s game with Malkin sidelined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Koivunen, 22, heads back to the Penguins after being reassigned to Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton (AHL) on Sunday.
