A new resident to the Mile High City might be out for an extended period of time.<\/p>\n
During an appearance on Altitude Sports Radio on Wednesday, Colorado Avalanche<\/a> head coach Jared Bednar revealed that forward Nicolas Roy is going to be out \u201cfor a little bit\u201d due to injury. <\/p>\n On @AltitudeSR<\/a>, Bednar says #GoAvsGo<\/a> will be without Nicolas Roy “for a little bit.” Said they want to give him time to get healthy.<\/p>\n Bednar didn\u2019t reveal when or how Roy was hurt, but questions arose when the veteran center was a late scratch for Colorado\u2019s matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, with reports stating that the 29-year-old was out due to an upper-body injury. Despite missing Roy, the Avs ran away with a 6-2 win.<\/p>\n Per Bednar, the team wants to give Bednar an opportunity to heal up as the Avs start to turn their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.<\/p>\n The Avalanche acquired Roy from the\u00a0Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> ahead of the trade deadline earlier this month. Colorado gave up two conditional draft picks<\/a> in trading for the former Vegas Golden Knight<\/a>. In his first nine games with his new team, Roy has potted three goals. Overall, the Amos, Que. native has notched eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 68 games this year.<\/p>\n Colorado, which started off as one of the hottest teams in the league this year, became the first team to punch its ticket to the postseason<\/a> last week. The Avalanche are the first, and so far only, team to have reached 100 points this season, as they seek the franchise\u2019s first Presidents\u2019 Trophy since the 2021 season.<\/p>\n As of Wednesday morning, Colorado (47-13-10) sits seven points ahead of the Dallas Stars<\/a> for not only first place in the Central Division,<\/a> but the best record in the NHL.
