{"id":522343,"date":"2026-03-25T17:41:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T17:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/522343\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T17:41:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T17:41:15","slug":"contract-details-larson-salary-buyouts-as-new-gophers-hockey-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/522343\/","title":{"rendered":"Contract details: Larson salary, buyouts as new Gophers hockey coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/gophers-part-ways-with-mens-hockey-coach-bob-motzko\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/kstp-news\/top-news\/gophers-part-ways-with-mens-hockey-coach-bob-motzko\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">parting ways with men\u2019s hockey coach Bob Motzko last week<\/a>, the Minnesota Gophers introduced St. Cloud State\u2019s Brett Larson as his successor on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>KSTP Sports has now obtained a copy of Larson\u2019s contract, a five-year deal that will pay the 53-year-old a starting base salary of $400,000, plus another $300,000 in supplemental pay. The deal doesn\u2019t have any built-in raises but notes incentives for achieving certain goals and annual increases at the discretion of Athletic Director Mark Coyle.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/minnesota-sports\/minnesota-gophers-to-hire-saint-cloud-state-brett-larson-as-new-mens-hockey-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gophers introduce St. Cloud State\u2019s Brett Larson as new men\u2019s hockey coach<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Larson will also receive a $50,000 relocation allowance and other typical university benefits, including a courtesy vehicle or a monthly $400 vehicle stipend.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, his contract includes the following buyouts:<\/p>\n<p>100% of the remaining total compensation if Larson is gone on or before April 30, 2028;75% of the remaining total compensation if Larson is gone between May 1, 2028, and April 30, 2029;50% of the remaining total compensation if Larson is gone between May 1, 2029, and April 30, 2030;No buyout after April 30, 2030.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kstp.com\/minnesota-sports\/watch-former-gopher-and-minnesota-hockey-legend-lou-nanne-on-firing-of-bob-motzko\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Watch: Former Gopher and Minnesota hockey legend Lou Nanne on firing of Bob Motzko<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those buyouts are the same for both sides and apply to Larson if he leaves for any other coaching position at any level or broadcasting role.
